Nate made a final check around the house before stepping out.

He glanced over at his grandfather snoring  away on the rocking chair. Nate had enough of being tormented  by the sour mood of his grandfather displayed everyday.

Whenever he'd come back drunk from the pub he'd rant at Nate then take his nap then complete his rant.

By this time it was becoming unbearable, so he decided to go and explore the forest.

And if he timed it correctly Nate could be absent for the whole miserable scene of his grandfather's annoying mood swings.

Besides, he had to go and explore the village before the holidays end and he'd have to go back to the city.

Although he was not one to easily give in to superstitions many tales about frightening occurrences in the forest had impressed upon Nate that it was unwise to go near it.

However their was simply no better place to find good scenery for his art works.

The forest had also a dark aura around covering some bits of the forest in dark, cloudy mists.

But, the village was always so eerily quiet like everyone was scared to come out.

Heck, the last time Nate saw someone was the day he came to the village which was three weeks ago.

However the old man he saw was very wrinkly and old, and Nate thought that the man had lost his mind when he grabbed Nate's hand had yelled into Nate's face:

"BEWARE"
"BEWARE"

The old man pulled his face closer to Nate's "Beware Te-"

A sudden light flashed between his eyes and gust of cold wind sent shivers down his back

The man screeched out scaring Nate "Their here, their he-".

Before he knew the old man was laying dead on the floor his face paler than Nate had ever seen and his eyes turned black.

Nate seeing this did the only thing he could, run, run away from everything he had seen and forget about it.

The sudden flashback caused the hair on his back stand up like soldiers and a shuddered.

In spite of the pleasant midsummer's evening, Nate shivered as he entered the forest.
The forest gave him a piece of mind from the eerie quietness the villagers kept around them and the ugly tormenting from his grandfather.

The forest's rich canopy of foliage and intricate network of tree roots seemed to mask something sinister.

He proceeded slowly until he reached a clearing where he took his notebook out of his pocket and began to sketch.

Nate walked around the forest, the forest was once famous for it's ancient carvings found one rocks, but as centuries had past many people who came to the forest took them and pawned it away for money.

He had also heard stories about the ancient gold coins that may not have been any worth all those centuries ago but worth millions nowadays.

Even if he did find one the carvings,
they would be so intricate to draw.

He also knew that if he brought one home, he wouldn't be able to keep it as his grandfather would have taken it from him and pawned it away.

Nate moved carefully and quietly as he continued looking for the ancient carvings and gold coins, when suddenly his concentration was broken by the piercing sound of hysterical laughter.

Nate froze.
