The sun has risen. light shines through the blinds of the bedroom window.
Everything is peaceful .... until,
*BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP*
Mateo:"nooo why is that so loud" he groans, putting it on snooze to settle back in the covers.
He only gets a few minutes before his brother ruins his beauty sleep.
Griffin:"GOOOOOOOOOD MOOORNING!!!!!!!!!" he screams as he bursts into Mateos' room.
Mateo:"JESUS CHRIST"
Griffin:"haha wake up doofus, we'll be late"
Mateo: *groaning* "Why would we be late? We have like 30 minutes until we have to walk to school."
Griffin:"I wanna get something from the new cafe downtown. we'll have enough time if we leave now."
Mateo: "......fine" he could never pass up the chance for good coffee.

It's a warm day
Mateo and Griff enter the cafe. The design is rustic and homey, the smell of roasted coffee fills the air.
Griffin orders a cappuccino for himself, and Mateo orders an americano.
They stand near the end of the counter and wait for their drinks. Meanwhile, a boy their age enters the cafe. He catches Mateos' eye. Fair skin spotted with freckles. His mop of curly hair is sunset orange. His large droopy eyes are a mysterious dark blue, like the sky at dawn. He's dressed in clothes too large for him. He approaches the counter and picks up pre-ordered coffee. Mateo's eyes watch him exit the building. Through the large glass window he sees him bring the coffee to a woman in worn out business attire. Her hair matches the boy. One could assume it's his mother. She takes the coffee, hands the boy a bookbag and drives off. He is left there looking defeated and begins walking in the direction of the highschool.
Griffin: "our order is ready, cmon"
Griffin's words pull Mateo out of his thoughts. They exit the cafe and make their way to school.

At school
Mateo and Griff walk through the entrance and immediately get dirty looks.
Griffin:"wow were unpopular today aren't we,
i wonder why"
Mateo:"oh idk maybe because you dragged me out of bed mad early without time for either of us to get ready."
Griff: "oh yeah... let's go to the bathroom i don't wanna look homeless like you."
Mateo: "shut it." he says as they head to the restrooms.
Standing in front of the mirror, Mateo sees his bleached white mohawk looking unkempt and shaggy. His eye bags extra prominent. Lips slim. He looks more at himself and decides he only needs to wash his face. He splashes his tan skin with sink water and dries his angular face on a paper towel. Once he finished he saw Griffin hadn't even started getting ready yet.
Mateo:"I'm gonna get going, i'll see you at lunch."
Griffin:"so long."
Mateo slams the door.
Griffin re-centers his focus on the mirror making sure he has his self-care plan figured out in his head before he starts. Once ready he washes his face and applies concealer over his acne. He touches up his bold eyes with eyeliner, making them a little too bold. He puts on mint flavored chapstick. Next, he takes out a tube of hair gel and spikes his hair.
He looks like a groomed porcupine with his brown hair and frosted tips but he likes it that way. Before walking out he makes sure one last time that he looks good then heads out to class.
In math, Mateo is lounging in the back unnoticed by the teacher. It's a large class so it's quite easy to get away with. He never pays attention, mainly just sleeps during school.
*BAM*
He jumps from the sudden noise of the door slamming open.
in the doorway stands the boy from the cafe.
"Sorry i uh- I didn't mean to slam it" the boy sheepishly explains.
Teacher:"Ray, this is the third time this week you've been late to class."
Ray doesn't acknowledge him and hands the teacher his late pass.
He walks to one of the desks next to the window and glances at Mateo. Surprised to find him staring at him, Ray's cheeks puff red. He averts his eyes, sits down and buries his head in his arms.
Mateo: *quietly* "So his name is ray.......what a weird guy."

Later
School is over and the brothers begin heading home. They walk through the neighborhood. They reach their trailer park. The trailers are all broken and dirty, as most trailer parks often are. They arrive at their own which is in relatively good shape, probably because Griffin is a neat freak.
They walk inside.
Mateo scratches his head. "Glad we're finally home." he grumbles.
"Is it just me, or were they extra itchy today?"
"Just you, stop the chatter so I can focus."
Mateo focuses his mind on the top corners of his forehead. Little spikes sprout, black colored horns grow long and thin. Once finished, he shifts his focus to his ears. The tips grow pointy and large enough to become droopy, his many earrings look extra dangly. Last, his eyes. The dull black color of his iris lets a brighter richer color pool over, a shimmering ruby red.
Griffin does the same, golden eyes shining over their light brown disguise. His sand-colored horns twist in a circular shape like a sheeps. And his ears grow pointy too, but they grow strong enough to support the shape, and end looking elf-like.
Though this is most unnatural for the normal world, mateo and griffin don't bat an eye. This is their natural form, after all they are demons.
Their dog, Butters, runs to them in joy. Griffin gasps as stars form in his eyes.
"HELLO MY BABY!!!" He yells, opening his arms.
The fluffy pup jumps into them, tail wagging furiously.
Mateo is left in the dust but he doesn't mind, he just needs a nap.

While falling asleep, the image of Ray keeps popping into Mateos brain. Why has he never seen him before if they're in the same class? Why did he catch his eye only now? He can't figure it out. But even so he eventually falls asleep
