"Tonia " my mother called me on a Monday morning. I sluggishly walked towards her.

"are you done packing your bags?" my mother asked me again.

"yes." I answered weakly.

"have a seat, my daughter " she said pointing to a seat in front of her.  I frowned.

Whenever my mother ask: to have a seat, one thing comes to my mind,  "advise." I sat down quietly.

"Tonia " she started. "you are starting the journey of your life. Your father and I won't be there to correct you anymore.

" I laughed in my thoughts. "correct" you say?, more like depriving me of my happiness" I mumbled in my thoughts.

" did you say something? " my mother asked.

it seems she heard my inner thoughts. "no, ma"  I quickly answered, shifting uncomfortably.

" you are nineteen and I know you are no longer a baby. You are going to college, don't forget where you are coming from". she paused and sighed heavily

" you know how your father and I  raised the money that we are using to care for your education? I want you to make us proud.  You are the only child we have and that is why your father and I are striving to give you the best in life. Focus on your education....

" as my mother's lips moved on and on,  my mind was somewhere else. I was thinking of the freedom I would totally enjoy.

" did you hear me? " a voice woke me up from my trance.

I nodded and answered " yes mama "

finally what seemed like forever has ended.
