As the sun hit his eyes the boy began to wake. He turned his head and looked out the window next to him. He watched as monks and priests walked by, all in a hurry. He got up and began to get dress. He put on poorly made grey cloth robes. He turned to see his sister sprawled across a bed on the other side of the room. He walked over to a small mirror on the wall and began to fix his hair. After he finished he continued staring into the mirror, at the horn on his head. The horn that stood out on both him and his sister. The horns that plagued their lives. The horn sat at the top of his forehead and poked out about seven inches. It parted his blue hair which he pushed behind his ears. He walked over to his sister and gently shook her to wake her up. Her eyes gentle opened to reveal milky white clouds covering them.
"Is that you brother?" She said with a smile.
"Yeah, it's me. I'm going to go do my chores then I'll come back to get you to go eat. Is that ok?" He asked.
"Yeah, does that mean I can sleep longer then?" She said with a bit of excitement in her voice
"Well of course." He walked out of his room and closed the door gently behind him. He walked down the hall to a small closet. He grabbed a broom from inside and began to walk back down the hall towards the main chamber. He heard a lot of ruckus come from inside there. The boy began to walk faster. When he came to the main chamber he was surprised to see everyone bowing in front of a man standing in a glowing marble gateway. The man was a rough looking Kitsune with black hair and fur. He had piercing green eyes that looked as if they could look into a person's soul. His face was scarred up with a very large scar around his left eye. He had black hair the swooped above his right eye. His fox ears looked torn up. He was wearing what looked like a cloth shirt and jeans under a heavy white trench coat the went down to his ankles. On his feet were thick leather combat boots. But what stood out the most was the giant black and purple scroll case in his back. He could tell this man looked slightly agitated at all the people bowing down to him. The boy thought this man had to be some sort of high priest from another temple. He looked down and began to sweep the dust and dirt on the floor. "Dump monks and priest, they'd worship anyone they believe are closer to Kami than them. They have no true time for my kind." The boy thought to himself.
"Is that what you really think?" Those words shocked the boy. He looked up and turned the the strange man. His piercing green eyes were staring directly into his. It bother him, it was like the man was staring directly into his soul and judging him. "Even after they've taken you in?" The boy slowly began to walk towards him
"Who are you?" The boy stuttered. "No, how did you know what I was thinking?"
"I can answer both of those questions, Johnathan." The man said calmly in a rough voice. "I am Kami, Shén, hananim, Bog, The Creator, or God. I am the one who created the world and all the people. Does that answer your questions." Johnathan stood there, shaken. He had no idea how this man knew his name. The only way would be if he was telling the truth, and that gave him even more questions.
"Ok, let's say I believe what you said, then why is "Kami-sama" here in this temple and not in one of the big main temples." he asked in a slightly angry tone. The god could sense some anger and even greif within the boys words.
"Because I'm looking for a vessel." He answered calmly. "Actually, I'd say I'm looking for someone to well, for lack of better words, help me."
"Help you with what? You're god aren't you, you can do anything." Johnathan snapped. The priest and monks all turned to him and glared. He could feel their glares, but this wasn't the first time hes felt eyes like these, and it won't be the last. The god was taken aback by his response. The first time in a long time hes come to see the people he created and one of them is yelling at him. He could feel the onis anger in his tone. He could sense some resentment. For some reason, it reminded him of himself and cracked a small smile.
"Well johnathan, I am god, but I am limited to the spirit realm where I reside, which is behind me in this doorway. I can not step out of here or I will turn to a whisp. I need someone with a physical body. And the people at the bigger temples may be dedicated to me but the aren't what I'm looking for. I need someone I can train, someone who can learn. I need someone who knows they have limits and knows the world is rough. So, Johnathan, I can see it in you. You have anger, you have greif, you have sadness, but you also know happiness. You have a sister, Sila, whom you love and want a better world for. I can help you bring about a better world. You think you two are cursed by being onis, but I can show you that you can overcome that, and make people know onis are part of my creation too. I ask you Johnathan, will you be my vessel?" Everyone was in shock. The god just asked a Half-Oni to be his vessel. A kid who was earlier, disrespecting the god.
"Oh Great Lord, surely you don't mean this boy!"
"He is just a kid sir, he is unsuitable!"
"He talked down to you!"
"He's just an Oni!" The god had heard enough of their complaints and insults. He raise his hand and everyone got quiet in an instant.
"Enough, I've chosen him for a reason. It matters not what race his is, how old he is, or if you deem him unsuitable. I see potential in him. He stood up to me for the cruelty he's faced his whole life. Just because he is an Oni doesnt me he isn't capable of changing the world. So I ask once more, will you help make the world a safer place?" All johnathan could do was stare in shock. This man just asked him to be his vessel, to change the world. This was too much for him to take in.
"I um, well, i need some time to think about this, and to talk about it with my sister, please. She's blind so she would have to be prepared to go while without me." He stuttered.
"Take your time, I understand. This is a lot of responsibility. Go talk it over with her." Johnathan nodded and turned to walk out of the main room. He could still feel their eyes on him. He finally got to his room. He looked over to Sila who was brushing her teeth.
"Sila, can I talk to you about something?"
