'Or was it?'

Any regular person would have just forgot about it and put the thought aside, but... I'm not regular.

I looked around again to observe my surroundings more carefully and didn't see Seren, but instead an envelope with Seren's name on it. I got out of bed to where the envelope was and opened it. And there was a letter written in code that wasn't very hard to crack.

code:

4 5 1 18   9 26 1 25 1,

19 15 18 18 25   9   8 1 4   20 15   7 15   2 1 3 11   20 15   20 8 5   13 1 14 15 18   23 9 20 8 15 21 20

25 15 21

-Seren

translated:

Dear Izaya,

sorry I had to go to the manor without you

-Seren

"INDEPENDENT MY ASS!" I yelled out throwing the envelope on the ground to step on it.

"THAT DAMNED WOMAN!" I yelled less pissed off than before, punching the nightstand with little effort, but enough to have it snap in half as if it had just been Karate chopped.

"Might as well walk to the manor myself... Knowing Seren she might have taken both horses back... sigh... The disadvantages of having an animal lover as your maid..." I continued mumbling complaints about having to walk eight miles just to get to the manor while doing my morning routine and heading out of the inn, not without having paid the inn manager first.

After paying the inn manager I headed out to check the dead suspect and crime scene last night in I was too late to save the suspect before getting killed.

"Excuse me ma'am," I said to a woman who appeared to be looking at the corpse with guilt and sorrow in her eyes.

"Y-yes?" she said, her eyes red and puffy and she starts rubbing her eyes a bit.

"Is this vampire victim here a friend of yours? Do you know him? Or are you just mourning for someone you have no knowledge of?" I asked curiously wondering what her answer would have been.

"H-he's a family member... his name is Joseph. Even though we were cousins he was like a brother to me..." she said with a small smile.

"I see... I will be in charge of taking care of his corpse, he will have a proper grave."

"O-oh no...! I'm poor and have no money for such a thing...! I'm afraid even with all the money I have I won't be able to pay for a proper grave-"

"I will be paying for the construction of his grave, please do not trouble yourself about the payment."

After all... It IS my fault for letting the worthless peasant die.

"T-thank you so much! I am indebted to you young ma'am! I won't forget this!" The woman bowed, tears in her eyes as she spoke with a hoarse voice.

I didn't know what to do in the situation so I had just left, after all Seren left with the horses, leaving me to walk a good eight miles back home. It's best I leave as soon as I can.

After walking a good eight miles, I came to a stop at the gardening area.

"And to believe I actually live here... I don't even know my way around..." My legs were shaking for walking such a long distance, they felt sore and numb, it had come to a point where I couldn't even feel my legs.

All of a sudden mist slowly started appearing, it had a comforting yet dangerous feeling. Then, next thing I knew it, I was falling to the ground as if in slow motion. And everything went black.

Authors note: Sorry I haven't updated in so long! I was carried away with school that I literally forgot about the existence of my wattpad account! An apology to my friend Joseph for using your name, but I'll use your name again like you suggested at school! And a thank you to the people who actually read this lame excuse of a book.
