I felt safe. The warmth of Quintion's body against mine, the dim light of the television in front of us. Everything in this one moment was perfect. Nothing could ruin it. I put my feet up over top of her legs, moving the blanket with me.
"I love you," Quin said, as a reaction to my movement. I pushed my face into her chest, hiding a blush and smile. She kissed the top of my head and continued to watch the movie. "How many times have you seen this now?" She asked me.
"Ah, too many." I smiled, mouthing along with the movie. I know that Quin would get annoyed if I started saying the lines out loud, so mouthing along was the next best thing.
There was a knock on the door. I grabbed the remote and paused the movie, the lights already turned out, trying to make it seem like nobody was home or awake. "Who's answering or should we ignore it?"
"Well, I'm not able to get up and you look comfortable so unless you wanna move I say ignore." She retorted.
I quietly laughed, not wanting to give away our presence.
The strangers knocked again. I looked up at Quin and she shook her head. "If it's really that important then they'll come back tomorrow."
A few more minutes went by and there were no more knocks on the door, we resumed the movie and I was beginning to drift off to sleep.
THUD THUD THUD
I jolted up right, my heart pounding. "Babe, I think one of us should really answer the door." Quin looked at me and nodded.
I gave her a quick kiss as she got up to answer the door.
"Can I help you?" I heard her say to the stranger at the door. What they said in response was quiet, inaudible. "Sir, you do know that it is extremely late at night, my girlfriend and I were just heading to bed got interrupted by this. Unless you have a logical explanation for this I would suggest you get off my property before I call the cops." I assumed the man at the door was drunk.
"Well ma'am, I don't really have a logical explanation for bothering you tonight but I do have an explanation..." he man dragged out the last word that he spoke all I heard was a loud BOOM
