It happened again. I felt my hands trembling, shaking with fear. My heart beating faster with every breath. I could feel it raging over me. I dreaded every moment, every second, every minute, time itself. Terror descended upon the core of my soul. I was scared of unknown. Maybe known. Maybe near. Maybe far. The sky started turning orange. On the top of the building I gazed across the city. It didn't look so dull. Just then I heard footsteps. I knew them. My eyes glinting with fear turned to anger. Why was she so late? " Hey Ann" I heard Rose's voice. I looked at her, bare of her remarks. I knew, I wasn't looking at the best sniper in our force or the finest martial artist we've ever encountered rather, I glanced the Rose whom I spent my childhood with, who was still that five year old girl who would rush up to me to tie her shoelaces. She was the Rose I knew.

She sat on the edge of the roof and beckoned to me. I sat there beside her, laying my head on her shoulder. She kept muttering " It's okay. It's over", till my hands stopped shaking. "Really? We don't have to fight anymore?", finally, words emerged out of my mouth. "Does that mean we can go to Aunt Marge's café like we used?", delight filled me up. "Absolutely", she replied chuckling. My nightmares seemed to dissolve, "Go around the city every Sunday, watch movies, skateboarding , all of that shit?" "Correct, a normal life. "

I felt relieved ,"No wars to fight?".She nodded.

She always gave me assurance that the everything wasn't nasty after all. "You'll be with me?" Why did I ask that? Maybe for assurance? Again. She replied" I am, always" I felt dizzy. The thing felt like a lullaby. The sky was flooding with dark clouds waiting to fall off. I pondered. Me and Rose. Best buddies.

 Two hearts.One beat.

One path. Now discrete.

Reality is a disappointment. This was not a dream."What happened?", Rose asked.

I started falling.I felt like I was freed. Going down. I crashed.I could hear the exuberant voices coming from a bonfire beside. They tempted me to rise, haul my unsettled thoughts and bind them. A strong evocation of sorrow geared me up forward.  I glanced at  the bunch of roses in my right hand.I felt something slithering through myself which triggered my senses, dragging me back to reality.I fell on my knees. But something caught my eye.

I stared at the tombstone ahead, with words "Rose Mulligan" carved on it.
