Beep. Beep. Beep.

Where am I? What happened? I thought we were safe... I guess not.

"Eon? Eon! Are you listening? This is really important that you hear!" My mother was telling me. She seemed extremely frantic and sweaty, like she needed to get out of here as soon as possible.

I was sat in a hospital bed, connected to a bunch of different machines. Oh. Right. I forgot. I was in here because I was brutally gang raped by men wearing glowing tattoos. I remember them screaming at me saying it was my fault they had those tattoos. I didn't understand.

"Oya, are you listening? You keep staring at that wall!" My 5 year old son, Sam, is asking questions too.

"Yes baby, I'm listening." I tell him with a patient smile. He frowns like he doesn't believe me. I brush it off and turn to the doctor standing at the foot of my bed.

"Sorry, could you repeat that?" I question. The doctor, who's name tag reads Dr Lea, and my mother shake their heads.

"We found DNA traces of 9 different men in and on your body during the rape kit. We also found rope marks on your wrists and ankles, whip marks on your back and breasts, and rocks pushed into the wounds on your back. There were also traces of chloroform in your system. Do you remember how this started?" Dr Lea told me. She looked like she was ready to give all of her pity to me that minute without a second thought.

"I was walking past the bar on Main Street and I got pulled into an alleyway. They put a rag over my face and I passed out. I woke up later on to them screaming in my face, but I'm not sure how long I was passed out for." I stared blankly at the doctor as I described everything I could. I didn't want her pity.

"Okay, was there anything specific that you remember about them?" Dr Lea asked.

"This sounds crazy, but they had glowing tattoos." My mothers eyes went wide. "They were hearts and long spikes. They kept saying it was my fault that they had those tattoos. That I did that to them." I said, wondering why my mother looked so shook up.

"Oh my god." Dr Lea looked absolutely mortified. "They were victims of the Olkarian, haven't you heard about them?" She asked. My mother's head shot up and she looked panicked.

"No?" I'm so confused. Olkarian? Is that in the English dictionary? What the hell is happening??

"They're basically a terrorist group. It's a huge family located all around the globe. They wear these glowing heart lockets around their necks, that represent the color of their actual magic. I never believed in them until I they kidnapped somebody I knew and forced those tattoos onto him. They seem like normal tattoos, but they're tracking devices. Whoever they tattooed, is now a walking security camera for them. They can also control their movements. They have these large glowing beams that they can control and it makes one Olkarian more powerful than 100 normal people. How have you not heard of them?" Dr Lea explained.

Before I could answer, my mom answered for me.

"Because it doesn't concern us. It's up to the government to control them." My mom frantically 'explained' as she covered up Sam's ears. "Dr Lea, when may we leave the hospital?"

Dr Lea looked startled by the question.

"Oh uh, you may leave whenever you see fit, ma'am." She said. My mom looked relieved.

"Okay then we'll be leaving right now. We don't wish to press charges so thank you for your service. Please unhook my daughter from the machines." My mom calmly said.

"Oh! Uh I'm sorry, only Eon can decide when she wants to leave because she's over 18. Eon, do you agree with your mother? Do you not want to press charges either?" Dr Lea explains.

"I've always trusted that my mom makes the right choices. This time is no different. I appreciate your help but please unhook my IVs. I'm ready to leave." I said, turning to Dr Lea.

Dr Lea looked concerned but my mom looked relieved. Dr Lea moved to unhook my IVs and soon enough everything was out. I filled out all the necessary paperwork to be discharged and soon enough, we were out of there.

"Eon, we need to have a serious conversation when Sam isn't here." My mother said with cold eyes and stiff shoulders.

I raised my eyebrows in question but she didn't notice. I'm sure it's just about the sexual assault. I'm surprised that I'm not more upset about it though. I think I'm still in shock.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

I whipped my head around and saw a guy with the same glowing tattoos holding an assault rifle. Holy shit. Is he seriously shooting up a hospital?? I pick up Sam and grab my mothers wrist to start running, but my mother doesn't move. She looks at me with the most sadness I've ever seen.

"Mom? We have to go now!" I frantically tell her. It's like she doesn't hear me.

"I'm sorry Eon, I have to help. This is the only way I can. Please forgive me." She calmly explains. Before I can respond, she's darted in to the hospital!

Before I can chase after her, I see a flash of purple light. No, it's not light. It's the same magic that the Olkarian use! They're here?? I thought mom said it was just a myth!

"Mom! We have to go!" I scream into the crowd of running people, clutching on to Sam. It feels like everything stops around me when I hear my mother speak to me.

"Eon, it's okay. I won't hurt anyone except for the man causing this but you still need to get Sam out of here." She says.

In a daze, I see her through the crowd. She is at the heart of all the light and chaos.

Oh my god.

My mom is an Olkarian.
