Being the new kid at school's always tough, especially when you're always the new kid.

It sucks.

but he can't help it. His father's work as a lawyer was pretty important and he's no one to complain. After all he has to be the perfect son. Good marks, perfect behaviour, never one to stand up against his parents, just perfect. That was him.

Bullshit.

Being forced to be someone he truly wasn't, was the worst. He often thought about going out to party, to get drunk and high, like all the other kids. Just... having an exciting life as a teenager would be amazing.

But he couldn't be like this. No, not with his family hovering over his shoulders like a tiger observing his prey.

He felt trapped.

"Don't disappoint us again, or..." he recalled his mother's words in his mind.

Seemed like his parents weren't really proud of his behaviour at his last school.

He, Hunter Lee Collins, just wanted to have at least one good friend who would understand him. His parents though said friends were just a mere distraction, not worth his time. He shouldn't waste his time with normal people, after all he was better than them, they said. An elite student.

Being trapped in his own thoughts, he didn't realize how he just poked at his food, his eyes wandering around the big cafeteria, mindlessly observing the people around him and their fake laughter.

"Hey! You're the new kid, right?"

Hunter jumped at the sudden sounds of a stranger sitting at his table.

Looking at tghe person in front of him, he saw a girl, probably his age with big round eyes, long and curly brown hair and a huge smile on her face. And she continued talking when she saw that she got his attention now.

"I'm Alice, Alice Woods and I made it my personal mission to make you my friend! So if you want or not, you gotta be prepared for stupid jokes and I'll be really sad when you don't laugh at them. Because beware, I have the best puppy dog eyes on earth!"

At that he couldn't help but smile. What an energetic girl, he thought.

The words of his parents echoed in his head and his smile faded.

"Hey, sorry but I won't be your friend..And now excuse me I gotta go.", he said in a cold tone and grabbed his bag and his tablet to leave the table.

But Alice didn't seem to back up and just followed him.

"I wasn't joking, you know? And I'll accomplish my mission. Just wait and see!", she grinned as she started to walk next to him with her own tablet and she winked at him.

"So, what's you name? How old are you? Where are you from? And which courses do you take? Cats or dogs? Pineapple on pizza? Winter or summer? Hey, don't ignore me, these are important questions!"

She followed him to his locker and kept talking like a waterfall.

He sighed as he opened his locker.

"Hunter Collins, 18, Chicago, both cats and dogs, I tolerate pineapple on pizza and I am more of a winter person."

Alice beemed at his answers and her smile got even brighter, if that was even possible.

And to give all answers, he showed her his schedule.

"My next lesson is biology."

"Mine too, what a surprise!", she exclaimed happily.

And just in time the bell rang to announce the beginning of the next lesson.

Alice hook her arm around his" walking towards their biology class.

"Oh and welcome to Redwood River High!"

He could already see the disappointed looks on his parents faces once they know about Alice. Because he has a feeling that he wouldn't be able to run away from a friendship with this girl.

If only he knew what's about to come next...
