There were days that the rain comforted Yuuri. He would sit at his window and stare out at the drops hitting the ground and a sense of peace would wash over him. A small ball of chocolate fluff would snooze by his feet while he gazed into the dreariness outside. But that happened only rarely.
Other times, Yuuri felt that the rain followed his misfortune. Rain meant misery in Yuuri's eyes.
•
Hot tears fell down his cheeks, the hard drops of rain plummeting on his roof, masking the harsh sound of Yuuri's painful sobs. His lungs burned whenever he took in a gulp of air, hoping that maybe, just maybe, the rain would stop soon.
But it didn't. A bolt of lightning lighted up his dark room, a crack of thunder following it as Yuuri gave out another hard sob.
The flash gave Yuuri an opportunity to look around his room. His walls were covered with posters of his favourite figure skater, his idol, Viktor Nikiforov. The silverette brought a weak smile to his face and he sat up in bed, groaning at his aching limbs. Yuuri wiped his wet face, letting out shaky breaths as he felt the rain begin to quiet down.
His face burned red, tears staining his rosy cheeks in narrow streams. Yuuri was fed up of crying and his eyes hurt from trying to rid of the tears that spilled from his eyes. He fumbled for the remote that was perched on his bedside table, pointing it at the television that sat in his room and let out a short, shaky breath, almost as if he were hiccuping. Viktor skated on the small screen, making him let a small sigh out in relief.
Viktor was the only thing, only person who could make Yuuri calm down, he made the tears stop leaving tracks on his cheeks and the rain only became a distant sound, pattering softly on the roof.
'Quadruple flip! Nikiforov has done it again!'
Yuuri felt pride for his idol, and although he couldn't even try to attempt those jumps yet, a swell in his heart made him believe that one day he'll get to be just as good as Viktor, maybe even skate on the same ice as him.
And that brought him the thing that he had searched for for months. A toothy grin. His cheeks lifted and his eyes creased slightly and Yuuri let out a loud sob. But this time, the rain never came. This time, they were sobs of happiness.
