The Liar

I have lied...

I continue to lie...

But I've never lied to you.

I told you the truth,

Nothing but the truth,

Yet you thought it a slippery tongue.

How can I prove

My worth to you?

How can I make you see?

I did lie...

I will lie...

But I cannot lie to you.

They punish me and they hate me,

They tortue me for the truth.

Yet it never hurts as much

As when your face turns to steel.

Your taut lips and narrowed eyes

Forever haunt my sleep.

For I cannot make you hear

A word, a tone, a note...

All you hear is falsity in every breath I speak.

I lie...

I am a liar...

But I will never lie to you.
