Gabriel's Ascent.

Three brothers came across the foundations

and two took it for everything it was worth.

While the third looked and wondered a-loud;

"Keep going and it'll be your end and our curse."

They sneered at their simple brother

because well, they just didn't care.

The third knew that he'd bare witness,

he felt it welling within, he cared.

Boasting all the way home on how they were rich.

On how they no longer needed to follow any along.

While the third kept to his silence, he followed closely.

He was a loner that danced to a different type of song.

Half way home a fog settled in to be really thick.

So thick, they couldn't see the edge of a cliff.

One tripped and fell, then the other tripped as well.

Where had they gone? The third couldn't tell.

Then he stumbled and fell down too.

As if that foundation was claiming them all.

Next that same fog had lifted them upright,

standing them before a gate, bright and tall.

*

St. Peter was standing off to one side the gate

then looked at the brothers and said, "To wait."

But, they barely heard or seen he was there.

Because well, they still, didn't care.

Parting the clouds were a set of stairs to ascend.

When the boastful brothers sought to climb them.

The third stated what the man had said, "Here we should wait."

But, they laughed, "He'll never notice, he's guarding that gate."

Reaching the stairs, they were pure, made of glass.

When St. Peter, once again, thought he should ask.

"Is it up or down that you two wish to go?"

"Were off to heaven, this, you should already know.

"And why may we ask do you care, Oh man of old?"

Just then the third stepped aside and did as was told.

St. Peter rose his staff bringing it to strike a near by cloud.

When thunder broke the silence, ringing out loud.

Those stairs went flat and the two brothers fell chained

sliding down those stairs when St. Pete exclaimed,

"This was their profit for that foundations they rend.

Now what say You, my good friend..."

"I think I'll stand here and wait as you asked."

And Old St. Pete went back to his appointed task.

A hundred fold later, more people passed through,

while the third brother stood there awaiting too.

*

He never budged, just stood awaiting his turn

when St. Pete asked, "So lad, What did you learn?"

"Well Sir, life is a journey, one long sought for.

I've witnessed many people and things galore.

"But those two brothers of mine and don't get me wrong,

I love them both but, I danced to a different song.

If wealth were the key, I'd have helped them many a time,

but, It isn't, as I've just bore witness once more and I'm fine.

"They thought of doing anything if it'd get them ahead

but me Dear Sir, I would have been better of dead.

They thought to steal the foundation and plunder its wealth.

They sought things for this life and cared of no-one else.

"I'm not saying I'm perfect, albeit, I'm far from that.

Still, I knew where my loyalties lay, where my place was at!

With them as my guide, I've seen things that would make one puke

but, one thing I'm aware of is that this life was no fluke.

"The Creator gave us a treasured breath that cannot be sold,

and again, those two would never do as they were told.

So I'm ready, Dear Sir, for you to send me down below,

so I can again bear witness for the things I now know."

*

St. Peter starred for a moment, then smiled at the young lad.

For one thing was certain, deep inside, caring this one had.

He waved his staff parting the gate for the boy to pass,

then said, "You can move on son and for Pete's sake, do ask."

The thirds name was Gabriel and to St. Pete he said,

"My life is far better now that I have seen the unwed.

But what I'd really like to know is; Where to from here?

My brothers were family, my life and I'll miss them dear.

"So will I have a chance to help them if I go here and not there."

St. Peter smiled, "In love there is always hope so continue to care."

Your time will come to help but for now you must learn more,

and with a wave of his hand, he said farewell as before.

Gabriel climbed those glass stairs and never once looked back.

For in the ending things he knew The Father had his back.

If there's one thing to learn; It was to always remain the same.

Because if you didn't, you could find yourself, bound and chained.
