Chapter 21

I woke up to the smell of coffee and I couldn’t help the smile that got on my face.

‘Good morning sweetheart.’ Luke’s cheerful voice sounded. ‘I brought you some coffee and some toast.’

He placed the food in front of me and unchained my hands. I reached for the coffee and took a sip. I noticed the smell of the coffee was a little strange. There was a small bad smelling odour coming from it. And I placed the coffee back down, my eyebrows in a frown. After taking a quick sniff at the toast I took a small bite. My mouth felt dry and even thought the coffee had my suspicious I took another cautious small sip.

It was when the liquid had almost disappeared in the back of my throat that I noticed the awful sweet after taste. I dropped the cup and pushed myself from the table backwards, tumbling down with the chair.

‘What are you doing?’ Luke asked a smile on his face. It was when I saw the amusement in his eyes that I knew something was wrong. ‘Did the coffee taste bad?’ He questions.

‘What did you put into it?’ I licked my lips trying to wet them only to notice my tongue was almost dry.

‘Something that will make you calm…’ He said with a shrug. ‘Unless we make you feel emotions than they will be enhanced.’

‘Why?’ I felt scared.

‘I have to re-educate you on a short amount of time. This is the fastest way.’ He clicked off the lights and clicked on a remote. When he pulled me back up, by placing the chair back in position, there were pictures flashing on the wall. It were photographs taken from evolvers while using their abilities. Some were just males with their eyes glowing bright others were from men lifting up others in the same way Darth Vader did in Star Wars. But most of the pictures passed so quickly that I didn’t really know what they showed me. Only that all of them had blue, illuminating eyes.

‘How do you feel?’ Luke asked from besides me. When I didn’t answer he slapped me. ‘How do you feel?’

‘Scared.’ I answered him. I didn’t think it was the images that had me scared and that it had more to do with Luke standing behind me, but I couldn’t be sure. As soon as a thought entered my mind it disappeared again. I heard Luke disappear from the room and looked around. I was alone. Alone with the flashing pictures in front of me and I…

I didn’t know. I didn’t know what to do. I just felt afraid. When the door opened again, Luke came back inside accompanied by Tia and the fear I had felt nagging in the back of my mind became full blown fright. I started to trash in my seat, my hands were still free and I tried to think of something, but all my thoughts seemed to slip right through my fingers.

Luke had grabbed my hands and lifted my head to focus on the screen again. He chained my hands together again when I had calmed down and nodded towards Tia. Without warning the loud snap of a whip broke the silence seconds before the sharp pain made my scream.

Tia didn’t pause and the second hit landed crossed over the first.

‘It hurts!’ I screamed when I thought I heard Luke question how I felt. I had lost count of the times the whip had hit my back, but my hazy brain had made the link that I got whipped whenever my eyes waved away from the flashing pictures in front of my eyes.

So I did the most logic thing. I kept my eyes focussed on the pictures, not even trying to see the separate photographs. Only those blazing blue eyes.

I didn’t know how much time passed between the last time the whip had landed on my back and the time I started to shiver uncontrollably and felt as if I was getting sick. I only know that when I started to moan during my shivers Luke appeared.
