The Lost Ones

Chapter 1: That Old Dirt road

This story is about Demetrius Colli, a 15 year old boy with jet black hair and void-like grey eyes, some could say he was disturbed boy. He had been in a car accident when he very young in which his father died but he survived. even since then he been changed. he doesn't speak that much and when he does he speaks almost too softly, like a emotionless breeze blowing. he often stares off and spaces, as if he were trapped inside his own head. He always showed the expression of a brick wall. Because of this he obviously had a hard time opening up to people, so he didn't have any friends. He would often be bullied or beat up because of his abnormities. The only person who even seemed to care about him is his neurotic mother who was always worrying about him. 

Demetrius woke up early, he grabbed his Mp3 player and threw on a tee-shirt, jeans and a flannel. he snuck by his mothers room hoping she was still asleep because she never lets him leave the house without her. He snuck out quietly and put his ear buds in, blasting the Offspring. He took a walk down the dirt road that passed all the farms and horse ranches. There was no expression on his face, it was like a blank slate. he just listened to the music as he walks and looks at all the large grassy pastures and half fallen down fences. The dirt trail soon turned into the woods. he kept walking, ignoring the private property signs everywhere. Off the trail there was a huge grassy field covered with wild flowers. he walked into it and sat down in the ankle tall grass. he laid back and stared up at the sky, watching the sunrise. he sighs contently closed his eyes. He felt at peace and relaxed for once, the world being drowned out by the loud yet soothing music. 

A little while later he heard a noise, like a crash and someone shouted. he sat up slowly and looks around in the tree line surrounding the field like a dome. he say what seemed like a flash of a deer or a dog or maybe a person? he thought nothing of it and checks the time on his Mp3 player. He thought he should head back now in case his mother has a conniption fit. he stood up and starts walking back, taking his time though. 

When he got home his mother ran up to him "Demetrius Caeruleus Colli! Where in the heavens have you been?!" She hugged him tightly. "I went on a walk.. down to the field I told you about" he said with a soft yet blank tone, knowing his mother had been worried because she addressed him by his full name. "I was worried sick, why didn't you leave a note?" His mother had a distressed tone "it was early and I didn't want to bother you" he said very matter-of-factly "of course, just don't take off again.. oh and come eat some breakfast you must be hungry" She left go of him and went back into the kitchen, expecting him to follow. He did "i'm oka-" "Eat" she turned around and insistently interrupted him. Demetrius nods as he sat down and ate some fruit and half a waffle. "So I was thinking since I have some time off of work, we could go on a camping trip?" his mother suggested and Demetrius looks up from his plate at her. He listens to her and blinks a few times so she knew he was listening. "We hardly spend any time together and I think it would be a nice break from everything, y'know" Demetrius nods slightly. "Is aunt Jamie going with us..?" Demetrius asks, knowing there was a catch "um- well she invited us, but  you know your aunt loves you" His mother stuttered, because she saw right through her. Demetrius sighs a bit and looks a little more depressed then usual "I know the boys are a bit mean to you. its just friendly banter" it was very obvious she was sugar coating it. Demetrius just gave her a look and continued eating his plain waffle. "please Demetri?" she looked at his, in the guilty sorta way mothers do and called him the same nickname he has had sense he was a baby. Demetrius averts his gaze and shrugs a bit which meant 'I suppose' in his language. She hugs him and smiles cheerfully. "it'll be fun I promise"
