Where The Angel Lies

Kira's eyes opened and for a beautiful moment, she had no idea where she was. However, all good things must come to an end and so did her ignorance.        

   "Zaine?" the words that swiftly escaped Kira's mouth surprised even her.  Zaine had become the only thing in her life that actually wanted to help her. Sitting up, Kira noticed that the detached engine room has hardly changed except for the absence of Zaine and the dwindling supply of coal.   Joshua and Dave were busy working but Baird was staring intently at her.           

   " Kira?". Zaine's head popped out of the hole that his brother had created on the roof of the compartment,  his face was distraught for a moment before that damned shield of his went up and the smirk returned on his face.         

      " so you're up." said Baird while he lit a cigarette.   Kira didn't trust Baird nearly as much as she did Zaine and those two kindly men. He was kind enough, but he was hiding too many things and he looked at Kira as if she was a fine piece of art rather than a human being.                        "We'll reach your destination in a day and a half." Said Baird while Dave sat next to me, taking a break from shoveling.                  

      "Not to sound rude, Baird, but why are you helping us?" Kira asked while munching on a sandwich that she had been sharing with Dave.                            "Can’t i just be a nice person and want to help out an old classmate Princess?" Baird said while flashing a devilish smile. Kira stated silent, waiting the laughter to come and it promptly did.                     "But really," Kira asked.   

                  "Lets just say I don't do anything that doesn't  help me in my goal." Baird said.

                      "And that is?" Kira inquired.                     

  "To change." After that, silence filled the room but soon after, the

silence was filled with Joshua's whistling while he manned the train.                     "were approaching the stopping point for you and your friend miss." dave said, breaking the tension that was still looming through the room.                      "Thanks Dave,"  Kira smiled, grateful that she would be getting off this train.       

               "No problem miss Kira, I'm glad to’a meetcha." Dave beamed, looking over at joshua.  

               "Yeah, if Baird ova here didn't pull this favor in us, we never would've met such a charmin' girl." Kira blushed at that and began her climb up to the roof.     

                   "Look who decided to stop by." Zaine smirked, patting the roof next to him, motioning for her to sit. The small roof was small and unsteady so Kira gladly took the seat. “You gonna tell me what happened to you yesterday?”  Zaine asked, his tone was passive and indifferent.  Kira, however, was taken-aback.

“YESTERDAY? You mean to tell me that I’ve been knocked out for a day?” Zaine just nodded, watching intently at the train tracks trailing behind them.

“My brother means to do the same thing to you as that Damien kid.”  Zaine whispered quickly as if trying to get the words out of his mouth as swiftly as possible.  Kira nodded, she expected this.

“He did the same thing to me as Damien did that night.” She said, pulling her gaze away from Zaine, too embarrassed to face him while recalling the appalling experience.   “Just by being near me, I felt a terrible...pain." Kira shuttered as if she expected the pain to come back at to reference to it.  Zaine nodded, still watching the tracks.                               "Kira, we haven't had the blessed daughter returned to us in sentries. No one quite remembers exactly how to handle you." He chuckled at that, "Whatever you're experiencing, i have no idea how to help you." Kira felt crestfallen at this but put up a smile none-the -less.                         "Leave it to you bozos  to mess things up for me." Kira smirked teasingly. Zaine's eyes seemed to glass-over become distant.
