They had finally completed the assignment they had been given. The target was difficult for any other team. Had been ready at any turn, any of them had taken. Killed every team they sent in to go after him, but what did you expect from normal people. Their team wasn't normal. Everyone feared them except for the government. The Government enjoyed knowing they had a secret weapon hidden. We were dressed just like every other military team they sent in. Acted just like every other squad. We were just as normal as everyone else, minus our enhancements. The Valkyrie Squad. Was designed for war. Not to be free for families, friends, lives outside of war like everyone else. We lived, breathed, ate, died War. Everyone says we were lab made or cyborgs. Grown in tubes or created to become the next new War Machine.
How far from the truth they were.
We all had families. We all have our memories... Past and present. Our pasts are what made us the only 7 volunteers for the risks and dangers ahead, we each choose what risk we wanted to attempt. What enhancements we wanted, but we all received the basic enhancements we all shared. Intelligence, fast healing from injury, endurance, telepathic abilities, even growing old had slowed down for us by a huge landslide. Those five are the only things we ended up sharing. All of our other enhancements were unique. Individual to us. We weren't built, or grown, yet we weren't born this way either.
"Hey fearless leader," Kesh, our teams medical yelled dragging me from my thoughts to look up at the back of our leaders head as Kesh, ran up and flung an arm around her neck. Our leader was always silent. Wore a black rubber wedding band on her hand. Long sliver hair that was thick but so smooth and light when the wind touched it. She did know sign language very fluently that we all with our enhanced intelligence knew and understood what she was saying. Even when it was short busts an commands. No one knew if she could even really speak out loud. She just woke up and started signing. We figured she had to have had a defect in the enhancements some where but the doctor said she was fine.
"We really don't like it when your whispering Kesh. It's annoying. Almost like you forget we can all hear what your saying even if it's a buzz sound." Jackel said carrying her sword behind her head with her wrists, eyes closed as usual. She was built, but slim and quick. She was the go to for hands on combat. She craved being up an close. It scared everyone how much she craved it. Her hair fire red, when her eyes were open they were green as emeralds with goldish rings. Skin was a milky cream.
We were all so different, yet so much alike. We all had a past that brought us here. We are almost all identical by talents almost. But we all looked so different an had different motivations.
"Chill pill Jackel! I was just speaking with Luna, here about maybe celebration of a certain someone's 24 birthday!" Kesh, got a sneaky cat looking face on as she pushed her glasses up her nose as the sun caught the glare in which made the look she was giving that much more eviler.
Stopping short I freeze.
"Uh... You don't mean..." I look at everyone around us for an out. Fuck! How did the weasley sneaky ass find out!?! Looking over at Violet, I smile thinking I've won. "Oh my God! Violet! How could you not have told us!!! We should totally celebrate!!!" Smiling inside I do a victory dance with fire exploding behind me. Perfect deflect!!!
"Obviously not," she bluntly points out as she continues playing on her cell phone game. Victory dance covered in water. "They mean yours, you idiot. How can you act like you don't know it's your birthday?" She says an then looks up at me. Jumping back I pose myself into a ninja pose to defend myself.
"Gees! Easy with the death stares okay!? I just don't like attention on me on my birthday." I let out a sigh as I close my eyes remembering why I hated my birthday so much...
