When Christmas Rolls Around

The leaves on our tress turn from green into nothing,
The rain above our heads turns into delicate snowing.
Children's eyes glimmer with hope,
As they hear "ho ho ho".
It's that time of year again,
When everyone is considered friend.

Summer days always felt empty,
The corner of the living room had no tree.
The sun split the stones, chestnut fires absent in homes.
There's a certain magic lingering in the air,
When Christmas rolls around once a year.

Presents are opened at unlawful times,
Christmas lights illuminate the night skies.
Families come together for the first time in a while,
Nothing can break their holiday smiles.
Chocolate and candy are devoured in copious amounts,
But, hey. That's what Christmas is all about.

Everybody in town gathers for the annual lights ceremony,
Children and adults stride together in harmony.
The holy ones among us pray, and give thanks,
It's a time where everyone feels a sense of unite.
Bellies too full for desert,
Always that one guy who needs more.
Isn't that what Christmas is all about?
I feel so elated when Christmas rolls around.
