"There perfect" I say to myself adjusting the vase. I begin humming as I dust the next shelf. I jump startled by the sudden knocking at the door. Confused I make my way to the door; who could be knocking at such an ungodly hour; a friend of Rowmeana? No she would of told me if she was expecting company its probably one of the beggars asking for a place to stay until it stops raining. Shaking My head slightly I make my way to the door it doesn't matter who it could be I'll find out soon enough.

Taking a deep breath I open the door praying that I don't have to tell a poor beggar that they can't stay. "I'm sorry but you must find somewhere else to-" I trail off mid sentence realizing there's no one there.

Puzzled I take a step forward to see if anyones nearby. Before I even take a step I feel something come in contact with my foot. I look down confused.

On the ground rests a tiny baby sound asleep, tightly wrapped up in a blanket. For a moment I just stare at the child lost in thought. Suddenly my concentration breaks as I realize the baby's not moving it's perfectly still not even a single hair moves. I quickly kneel down nearly crying out in relief as I watch the baby's chest slowly rise and fall.

"Alany," Rowmeana faintly shouts from the distance.

I Slowly reach for the baby grabbing it gently before standing up. Carefully adjusting my hold on the baby so that I'm holding it in my left arm. My gaze is quickly drawn to the blanket the baby is wrapped in up close I can clearly see that it's not made of cloth like I had assumed but instead made of tiny scales tightly arranged giving it the flexibility to move like cloth.

"There you are I've been calling for you why didn't-," Rowmeana says harshly before cutting off mid sentence. "What are you looking at?"

Rowmeanas voice snaps me out of my daze, I slowly turn around carfull not to disturb the baby. Rowmeanas eyes instantly widen in surprise her mouth open slightly in shock. Not even a moment later her eyes are norrowed and her mouth tightly pressed in a straight line.

Sensing what Rowmeana was about to ask I answerd "Someone left her on the doorstep"

"I see, did you see who left her here by chance?"

"I'm afraid not" I glance down at the baby sleeping in my arms. I can feel the smile tuging at the corner of my lips there's something about this child I don't know what it is but I feel the need to keep her safe.

"Rowmeana if it wouldn't be to much trouble do you think that maybe we could keep her?"

"Keep her Alany why on earth would we-" Rowmeana pauses mid-sentence to look at me and the baby her eyes soften slightly before she continues speaking. "You keep saying she are you sure it's a girl"

"yes I'm positive"

"let me see her" Rowmeana says before walking forward slightly and carefully taking the baby out of my arms. Rowmeana looks at her studying her face closely before moving the blanket slightly rev ealing the pointed ears of an elf. "I suppose it wouldn't hurt I am in need of an heir after all and you could use the company I can't count how many times you've re-dusted the same spot for hours"

"you really are the kindest person on Nirn"

"I know many people who would very strongly disagree" I smile knowing fully well what she means and who she's probably thinking of.

I'm about to ask for the baby when I suddenly realize. "were should she sleep most of the spare rooms are empty"

Rowmeana pauses to think for a moment before answering "she will sleep with you for the night we'll go to the market tomorrow"
