Chapter 1
"Melissa please knock it off!" Rafiel yelled stepping towards Melissa.
"Mom is everything OK?" Scott asks coming out of his room. His sister sits in the hallway on the floor with her legs crossed watching everything
Scott was grabbed by his father but he pulled away and fell down the stairs. The mother and father watched it all happen, but instead of just watching his baby sister ran after him. "Scott, no!" She screams out. When he hit the floor the parents came quickly down the steps.
The mom yelled at their dad and as quickly as he made it to Scott he was leaving the house. Once Scott was awake their mom put them in the car and called the sheriff. That was the night that separated the siblings for the next few years, it has now been five years since they last saw each other.
Present-day......
San Francisco Airport
I sit in the airport as I wait eagerly for my flight. Now that I'm fifteen my dad's letting me leave to go and stay with mom and Scott, I'm excited since it's been almost five years. I pull out my phone and text Melissa. (My mom)
Me: Getting ready to get onto the plane. Hopefully, you're awake to get this text. Bye.
I send it and not a minute goes by when my phone buzzes in my lap.
Mom: Sounds great! Can't wait to see you, I took the day off but you do have school tomorrow. Hopefully, we can all hang out after, and maybe I could drive you? Be safe, see you when you get here.
Her text read.
Long Text. I think to myself. I look at my phone again. It's 7:00 Am. I let out a yawn. "All passengers getting on the plane for Beacon Hills California please report to the gate." The speaker calls out. This is my first flight alone. And I'll be making no stops this time.
I walk to the gate and hand the lady my ticket, she smiles and hands it back to me. "Have a nice flight Miss. Peyton." I walk onto the plane and I can feel my anxiety hit me like a punch in the stomach.
I find my seat and buckle in, I'm waiting for the world and irony to give me the weirdest or grossest person on the plane. But instead, a boy no more than 16 sits next to me. He smiles and stares at my hands which are gripped to the armrests so hard that I think I'm part of it now. But I'm still shaking.
"Nervous flyer?" He asks.
"Yeah, I've never flown this far on my own, or on my own before," I say.
"Ah, my folks live in Fresno, I'm coming back from a high school trip." He says. "I'm Ryan." He puts out his hand.
"Peyton," I say shaking it. Ryan has short somewhat spiked up hair in the front and has very VERY nice bright Blue eyes.
"That's a nice name." He compliments.
"Thanks. My dad named me. Which to be honest I think is the only good thing he's really done." I say.
"Oh, you got a bad dad?" He asks.
"Yeah, something like that, I'm going back to my mom and older brother Scott, it's been a few years. My parents got in a fight and my dad got me and my mom kept Scott, I still feel kind of crummy about the whole thing ." I explain. A few hours go by and Ryan and I fill it with questions and answers about each other.
Like how his middle name is Steven and his last name is Keith. I laugh and tell him that my middle name is Bexley and the last name is McCall. He told me how much of an out of the box person he was and how he loved foreign movies.
