While the young Neros children watched, their children watched their parents pack for their trip, the oldest boy Oliver, had a strange feeling they had a feeling that this trip wasn’t going to be like the rest of the trips his parents have taken. Hearing his parents voice call out, he snapped into the present to hear, “Running late, let’s watch a movie until they get here.
Following behind his younger siblings Oliver followed his siblings down the stairs to the living room. When he arrived in the living room, he heard the sound of his younger sisters’ favorite song of the family favorite movie of “Oompa Tv” from Charlie and Charlie in the Chocolate Factory. He went and sat between Kai and Sapphire, throughout the rest of the movies he kept getting the feeling that something bad and incredibly important was about to happen. Once the movie ended his parents carried his youngest siblings Amber and Amethyst to bed while, Kai, Lavender, and Sapphire played a game of mancala.
Looking over at her over at her older brother, Lavender felt like she saw a strange gloom surrounding her older brother. Although he is normally very cautious, he seemed to be anxious which he refused to identify with. He always said he was cautious and just looking out for his siblings.
When they children heard the doorbell ring, they all ran to the door excited to see their grandparents. They all knew who got there first would get the good treat and the one who got their last would get the butterscotch candy at the bottom of Grandma’s purse. As Amber walked over to the door from her room she felt as if something was being hidden from her, but she ignored it because she didn’t think that the feeling was well placed in the environment.
As the children approached the door they all felt an overbearing sense of distress and impending doom. Watching their parents walk through the door they all felt as though they were saying goodbye for a long time, even though their parents would be back in a week. Amber felt as though she was going to cry and beg for her parents not to leave, because once they left she wasn’t going to see them again for a very long time.
“Okay, darlings it’s time to go to bed,” Grandma said while ushering the kids towards their room.
Once in their own rooms the children began their night routines with the younger girls taking a nightly bath as the boys would shower in the morning. While changing, Amethyst looked over at Amber and asked, “Did you get that strange feeling as well when Mom and Dad left?”
“Ya, I did but it’s nothing to be worried about. Just think if Oliver isn’t worried then we shouldn’t be worried. Okay? Everything will be fine,” Sapphire replied with conviction at though it were natural to only worry if her brother was worried about a situation.
In the middle of the night Lavender and Sapphire both woke up felt a deep sense of grief wash over them. Hearing the tears of their sister Oliver and Kai, snuck to their sisters room to comfort them, trying to stay as quiet as possible to avoid waking their youngest sisters and their grandparents. Entering their room Kai can feel their grief wash over him and he has the urge to cry as well but knowing he need to stay strong for his sisters.
Walking over to Lavender, he whispered into her ear, “ I felt it to but remember nothing is so bad that we can’t handle together as a family, but a family can only handle a situation when every has had enough sleep and is awake. So you need your sleep to grow up and get strong and crying makes you more tired. I’ll stay with you until you fall asleep.”
Settling in by his sister’s side, he began to hum a lullaby their mom used to sing to him, but he knew he couldn’t sing, when he couldn’t sleep, and began to stroke her hair.
While walking back to her room Amber felt as though her brother knew more than what he was telling her and that they all had a reason to be worried about what will happen while their parents were gone and that they should all be careful around their grandparents. Once she reached her room, she walked over to her sister’s bed to make sure her trip to her brother’s room hadn’t disturbed her. Seeing that she was still asleep, she walked over to her bed and tucked herself in, she quietly said another quiet goodbye to everyone in the house, and sent a silent prayer to the rest of her family and her parents.
