The golden rays of the sun hit the glass window sending fragments of light into the room through the thin blinds. The glow reflected from the mirror against the wall, small stars made of light appearing.

I woke up, rubbing my eyes and yawning lightly, looking around.

The events that happened through the previous couple of days hit me like a slap in the face.

This was my new home, none of it was a dream.

I sighed, my hands beginning to tremble.

Don't cry, Ashlyn. Remember what everyone said? Crying's for the weak. Am I weak?

Yes.

I took a deep breath, walking over to the old dresser and pulling out a cute dress previously put there for me. It was yellow with white polka dots scattered around the cotton fabric.

It fit perfectly.

The model was the same as yesterday's, tight around the torso and loose from the hips down.

I found a yellow hair tie on top of the dresser, pulling my hair into a tall ponytail. It fell on my back gently, swaying with every step I took.

I looked at myself in the mirror.

I looked cute?

I opened the door of my room before noticing that I was bare foot and should probably put on a pair of shoes.

I sat on the bed and put the same pair of white heels Emma gave me yesterday, except now they weren't white. They were covered in mud.

I looked at myself in the mirror once again, approving my outfit.

As I whipped my head up towards the door, I saw a figure standing sheepishly, looking at me.

Dark curls. Tall frame.

Enoch O'Connor.

As soon as he noticed me looking at him, he rushed down the hallway, face squeezed together in a scowl.

Why was he standing there?

_____

After a pleasant breakfast which involved the little kids asking if I liked to play with toys, and the older kids asking if I had a boyfriend, Miss. Peregrine wanted to talk to me once again.

The talk where I could ask questions.

Cause bloody hell did I have a lot to ask.

But I didn't know what.

It's that feeling when you're confused, when you want to know what's going on. But you don't know what to ask, what to do.

So you stay silent.

We sat in her office, the same one where I was yesterday.

The same leather armchair, same wooden furniture and flooring.

The ymbryne sat across from me, folding her arms against the table and leaning her chin on her knuckles.

"Ashlyn I need you to tell me everything you remember from the day Miss. Tanagers house got attacked. Could you do that?"

I nodded, my body tense and jaw set, preapared to go on a guilt trip.

I told her how we were eating dinner, how Miss. Tanagers screamed, told us to run.

So we did.

We didn't know why we were running, but we trusted the wise ymbryne.

We ran around the house, blocking doors and creating barricades.
Although we all knew it was pointless.

We ran to the glass garden.

But he found us.

And he killed us.

Well, everyone but me.

Miss. Peregrine nodded, looking at me with sympathetic eyes and a frown.

"I don't mean to sound rude Miss. Peregrine, but why do you need to know this?" I asked.

"If this attack happens here, I would like to be prepared for it Miss. Wainwright. I don't need any of my children hurt. That includes you."

I nodded.

"Do you have any questions for me Ashlyn?" the ymbryne asked.

I shook my head.

"If you ever do, don't feel shy to ask. Now, I suggest you go outside to the garden and spend some time with the other children, get to know them. You can ask someone for a tour around the house even," Miss. Peregrine said, getting up slowly.

I stood up as well and let her guide me to the yard.

I stood on the steps, straightening my dress with my hands.

Time to make friends, Ashlyn.
