Miley's POV

First I saw your laughing eyes
Blue as the sea, blue as the skies.

The only good thing about summer school, was that it didn't start until ten o'clock,so she could sleep in a bit.She should be grateful for that,at least.

As she walked toward the school's main entrance, she caught a glimpse of her reflection in a window.Hair pulled back in a scraggly ponytail, faded T-shirt and shorts,flip-flops...

She should be also grateful that she felt absolutely no pressure about her appearance, since she seriously doubted that she would want to attract the attention of her fellow detainees.

And,oh,yeah-----she also should be grateful for being given a chance to raise her English grade. At least, that's what her father had said to her a minimum of five times this morning before she had set off.

But as Miley trudged up the sidewalk to Seaview High School, she wasn't in a grateful mood. She paused outside the main door and scowled up at the building.

"Stupid, stupid summer school," she muttered. Then she pushed the door open and walked to room 217,where she was to be imprisoned. As she entered the classroom, her eyes flicked around the room to see who her fellow inmates were.

Dan Barton,of course.Jackie Somers, naturally.Eugene Fields,to be expected. How had she ended up sentenced to two weeks with the school's most notorious slackers?

"Good morning,Miley," the teacher,Mr Dickson, said. "Glad you could join us.Perhaps the second time will be the charm, and you'll find a way to finish all your assignments."

Oh,right. That was how she had ended up here.

"We're just waiting for a few more students, then we'll be ready to get started," Mr. Dickson said.Even though it was summer, the teacher wore pressed grey pants,a white shirt buttoned to the collar, black dress shoes.

Miley sighed and headed for a desk near the window. At least could glance outside occasionally and remember what freedom looked like. She gazed wistfully at the clear blue sky,the golden sunshine, the shimmer of the ocean in the distance.

Hmm.Maybe it would be better to move to the back corner, where she wouldn't be mocked by the beautiful summer day outside...

The door opened. She glanced up.Her mouth dropped open in shock, and she stopped thinking about where she should sit.All her attention was focused on the boy who stood framed in the doorway. He had wavy blond hair, blue eyes, and a dazzling smile;he was wearing faded shorts and a T-shirt with a picture of Kangaroo riding a surf board; he had an athletic build, and he looked exactly like...

"Talen Wright?" Mr. Dickson asked, looking up from his attendance sheet.

"Yeah,g'day," the boy said. "I guess this is the right place,if I'm on your list?"

"Indeed it is," the teacher replied.Talen was followed into the room by a very pretty girl with three earrings in each ear and long blond hair streaked with blue, green, and purple highlights.A boy with a wild mop of hair and a resigned expression trailed into the room after her.

Mr. Dickson said,"I'd like to welcome our surfer contingent,Talen Wright,Jessica Stirling,and Stefan Oblonsky.Say hello,everyone."

Amid a chorus of mumbled hellos,Miley sat silent. She felt as if she were in a dream. To be more precise, she felt as if she were still in the dream she had had last night,in which Talen had taken a starring role.

But this clearly wasn't a dream
In fact,he was sitting down next
to her!
He turned his head. "Hi."
Now he was saying hi to her!
"My name's Talen."
And he was telling her his name!
