Benny walks me back to my house. With Scotty still far behind us messing around with the other boys.

"I had fun tonight." He tells me shyly. He's so cute.

"Me too." I agree.

"I'll see you tomorrow, right?" He asks.

"Yeah." I nod.

"Great." He smiles. "Well, I'll see ya." He walks off toward his house.

"Okay, Bye." I wave before heading inside mine. Tonight was perfect. I finally got to spend alone time with Benny. And we're on good terms now. I really do like him, what I want the most is for him to like me back. Even a little and I'll be happy.

The next day Scotty got himself in big trouble. He decided to play with Bill's babe Ruth signed baseball. It went over Mr. Myrtles fence. The beast could get it any second.

"Scotty!" I yell at him as we're all gathered around the fence. "Why would you go into Bill's office? Do think that if the balls on a stand that it could be valuable? And did you not see babe Ruth's signature on it?"

"I'm sorry!" He apologizes.

"What're we gonna Do now?" I ask. He shrugs. Then Benny suggests we all split up to find cans to turn in for change for a replacement baseball. Benny's so smart. I stare at him dreamily. His warm brown eyes are so, perfect. I could look into them all day.

"Marjie!" Scotty yells from halfway across the sandlot. I look around and realize everyone has run off except for Benny and me. God, this is so embarrassing.

"What?" I yell back.

"Get cans!" He orders me before taking off to our house. I roll my eyes and turn to face Benny again. He's still standing there, why?

"Your brothers pretty crazy, Ay?" He asks me smiling.

"Definitely." I giggle. "Thanks for helping him out."

"Yeah, it's no problem." He assures me. I smile and nod as we walk to find all the boys. Benny is really great.
