I was alone, my father had died but a week ago. He is buried in the church cemetary. He has left me. I am alone besides my beloved beagle Reggie. Completely alone a vicars daughter at the age of 19 with not much hope for a future. My options are meek, I can go to my Great Aunt in London whom my father was not very close to. I am undecided on my future, I shall contemplate it more as I go about my daily duties that my father would wish for me to keep up on.
I have baked bread from the little supplies I have left to take to the elderly and home bound in the village. Mrs. Hickory will be expecting me and she will want the next chapter read in the Oliver Twist novel I have been sharing with her. I must keep going or my sadness may invade upon my soul and take hold.
"Oh Reggie we will find a place in this world, it cannot be as miserable as my mind is picturing it" Reggie is a resilient pup, giving me a head turn and wag, carefree and undisturbed with the knowledge I have that the Earl of Onslows man of business brought me yesterday of my imminent departure of my home by the end of the month. A new Vicar has been employed and will be taking up residence for the village. My home of 19 years will be forever a part of my past. At the young age of 19 I am orphaned without a mother and now a father. How will I provide for myself and my companion Reggie.
I must be off before my grieving and solemn thoughts take me away.
I put my bread in a basket, head for the door. I look around my little comfortable cottage my heart aches. I must go on for me and Reggie, silly little mutt napping by the warm fire. I grab my bonnet and wield it upon my tousled ebony curls, my cheeks are flushed my eyes are puffy. Oh how I wish I could just go curl up in bed amongst the cold sheets upstairs and never come down.
Alone, but I must go on.
