Prologue

It was sudden.

The impact.

Sudden and unending.

It reverberated through the two women as their car was shoved across the road and into the bridge's barrier. Within seconds another impact from the passenger side crippled the car further, wrapping it around the bull bars of the ute that hit it.

It was this second crash that sealed the best friends fate. One moment only broken and bloody and the next, separated forever from their lives. 

A single look was shared before they both succumbed to the endless dark.

Jayne's last thought was one of guilt and sorrow, while Katelin's last was one of fear and pain.

Both welcomed the blackness, expecting the embrace of their heavenly father and as a pulsing light appeared before their souls, they sped towards it, ready to shed the pain of their lives behind.

Unfortunately this was not to be . . .

In another world, surprisingly similar to Earth, rhythmic drums beat steadily, speeding up to match a pulsing light emanating from a red orb on the altar they surrounded. 

Hooded figures chanted in a large ring around the outside of their drumming cohorts, intently watching the seven prone figures lain at the base of the altar.

Their raised forms hovered a few feet from their sacrificial benches and the orb's red light seemed to course through their veins, healing the gaping wound in each body's neck.

Finally the beating reached a crescendo and the light emptied itself from the orb into the bodies, turning each into a form of light before dying out completely and sending the bodies thumping to the ground.

All at once, seven sets of eyes opened and the newly healed bodies took their second first breath. . .
