Antonia breathed in some of the salty air in the enclosure. She tossed a bucket of live shrimp into the water. The shrimp scattered. They were genetically modified so they'ed be a bit faster than normal shrimp, and plumper. After all, the Great Whites still needed to have to be able to hunt. If something happened here and they had to be released into the wild, it would be better they knew how. The shrimp scattered as they splashed into the water. The sharks began circling towards the surface, eager for their next meal. Antonia and her team were trying to genetically modify them too, so they didn't have to always swim in order to breathe. There's only a few sharks in the wild who can do this on their own. She grabbed another bucket of shrimp and tossed them in. A few sharks came to the surface and snapped at the shrimp.
Antonia turned around and exited the enclosure; her footsteps echoed on the metal flooring. She went into the lab connected to it. She dawned some gloves and goggles and went to the freezer. Antonia took out some live sperm cells from the sharks collected earlier in the day. She brought the cells over to a lab table and put them in a petri dish. For several hours, Antonia studied them and altered them. This batch was the first test run. They were planning on making the changes slowly so they could monitor which altercations on the genes did what. The scientist called over a college and had them check the cells over. He carefully analyzed the changes before saying "Looks good to me," and going back to what he was doing. Antonia nodded and brought the petri dish over to a machine. It vacuumed the cells into a pipet. She grabbed the pipet and handed it over to another scientist, ready to begin the artificial insemination. Antonia went to her desk and sat down. She began typing notes onto her computer. She had to send her notes to her superiors before they went through with the insemination.
The clock on her desk flashed 7:50 PM, reminding Antonia that her shift was ending soon. She was deep into writing down what altercations she had made when her superior approached her.
"I'm confident," Antonia jumped, "that your modifications will greatly improve the sharks' genomes."
"T-thank you," she said recovering from the startle. "I should head back for the day."
"Staff is going to meet tomorrow. Make sure you have sent the notes by noon tomorrow. Goodnight." Antonia smiled as she grabbed her belongings and walked out.
