Glitch

The reflection of purple, blues, and pinks erupted as I jumped into the puddle that reflected the beautiful sunset.

"I will not say this again." Fathers stern voice low and warning came from behind. I cringe as I turn around to see Fathers disapproving glare. Father never liked it when I played in the puddle outside the house. I roll my eyes discretely, so Father cant see. The only explanation for bad behavior is a bad chip. My Father would remind me several times every single day. I sigh in acceptance. Father was always right. I spin around digging my left yellow rain boot into the mud to meet fathers gaze. The cloudy sky made his bright blue eyes even brighter than usual. Holding his gaze I sigh deeply.

"Why am I treated so differently. Why am I different?" I plead searching for answers in the bright blue sheen of his eyes. Concern is what I expected to see in Fathers eyes. But instead his ocean eyes were drowning me with pity. I scrunch my face in disapproval. " Don't look at me as if i am a child father. Consider me more advance than the others." I say through the brightest smile i could muster.  Dizziness over came me when I felt a shocking sensation on the back of my neck. Every limb attached to my body became straight as if I were a perfect doll. I could feel father go tense and stiff. It was calling time. I have no choice.

8am every single day the young must report to the local operative stations. I raise my hand to feel the common raised bump on the back of my head. My vibrant red curly locks cover the odd-looking lump. Familiarly I place my fingers on the warm skin. I imagine multiple scenarios of how I could remove the chip that controls my entire life. How dare they try to control everything I do. Some day I will remove this chip and be free from the government. However, until I find a plan I am stuck with mindless obedience.

Reflective glass shows a petite 5'0 figure. Fiery red curls covering her freckled face. A scowl placed between the freckles making the face look uglier. I knew this was me. Disgust filled my limbs I willfully walked away from my reflection and entered the 10-story tall building. I could feel Father's presence trailing behind me. The receptionist at the desk gave a disdained look in my direction. However, when her gaze met Fathers she seemed more happy and relaxed.

"Good morning Sunshine." Gloria the receptionist directed towards Father. Brown eyes burning in lust staring directly into the ocean eyed man behind me. Scoffing quietly, I look away from the horror scene. Father told me chipped children were not allowed to show emotion. The software was upgraded years ago to control the feelings of the unfortunate children. The cold scanner placed against the bump containing the computer chip let out a loud noise causing me to slightly jump. I took several steps forward to play of my sudden startle. Father gave a wave to Gloria before slightly pushing me into the open elevator.

Engulfed in pitch black. Completely surrounded by the enemy. Sweat rolled down my spin as the inspector inched her way to me. Four hundred and one chipped children stand side by side emotionless. Acting as if I were also emotionless too. However, I couldn't help my self but sneak glances to the side. Short brown hair and hazel eyes stood beside me. Her bionic chip transmitted a deep green translucent screen in front of her face. She was analyzing her data against the rules. What if she was like me? Able to control her own emotions? I turned towards her looking at the back of her neck. Deep breath in, deep breath out. I transferred her chip information into my data base. As far as I knew I was the only chipped kid who had the ability to take data from other chips. Monika Smithers. Programed to join the army at 18 and purpose to serve the country with her entire life. Which means dying for our cause. I scoffed inwardly. How dare they chose her lives purpose. She was never given a chance, like myself.

I stood still for a moment thinking. Did I have to stay here and stand and take what the government was trying to push onto me? But I knew Father would kill me if I were to get caught by the inspectors. 'Click click click click' heels hitting tiles sounded to my right. 'Click click click' almost as if a warning sign of what is coming. I stand as still as the other children around me.

"State you name, profession, and purpose." A beautiful woman dressed in a tight business suit addressed directly to me. "Now." Projected out of her perfectly formed lips.

"Unit 0023489. Name given Viveca Stone. I am fifteen years of age and I am programmed to be a representative of business. Our purpose is to serve as obedient bionic humans." I gave the most monotone response I could muster. Bile rose in my throat and I thought of my calling. Representative of business may sound professional, maybe even boring. However, father told me this could mean many of things. Including being an escort for men in business. The same men who chip children at birth to give their parents a better future. Father never wanted me chipped however, my mother passed away during birth. Both parents must be present in signing the birth certificate for the child to not be chipped. The timing was a little too perfect. Almost as if it were set up.

"Acceptable." She replied and rolled her neck causing her black long sleek ponytail to swish to the side. She must've been at least twenty. I almost frown at the thought. Father told me the bionic experiments before my generation were all incomplete. The world was looking for a solution to war. First the government tried to chip the children for tracking purposes. Little did the populations know this chip was supposed to urge these children to join the war. Many were defective. The children who were chipped were aggressive. These children would break anything they could get their hands on. As they grew older they showed more aggression towards their own parents. Doctors from all around were removing these chips from the children only to find that this would cause immense brain damage. With no alternative many families had the chips removed anyways. Not only did this lead to poverty and despair. Many people worldwide were angry with the government. There was a revolt. Not only did the government have the world locked back in their house in fear, but they also had a mandatory house inspection. These few who still had the chip were taken from their families. Sent to government facilities to be tested on by scientist. Several years later these children seemed to be back to normal. But they were not allowed to return to their parents. These children had become government property. This young black ponytail lady was not only a slave to the government, but a constant test subject for the local scientists.

The new Generation 'AKA' all four hundred and one children and I, altogether crammed into this room, were the 'successful' experiments. The scientists have finally created an updated chip. The chips control how we think, speak, and feel. At birth we were programmed to be the perfect citizen. Some of us were doctors some of us were purely for entertainment. But none of us could be who we wanted.

But I still have my free will. What I chose to do next could change everything. My father and I had a plan to take over the government one corrupt man at a time.
