BUZZ. BUZZ. BUZZ.

I peel one eye open as my alarm goes off. Groaning I turn over to sloppily turn it off. Getting up slowly, I remember why I had to get up early today. Grunting I get up and pull myself into the shower sleepily. The hot water pouring on my body made it wake up from it's previous state.

Getting out, I stare at my reflection in the mirror. My muscles starting to show under my olive skin, I smile satisfied at my appearance for once. Black stubble started coming in on my chin, but I decide I didn't have time to shave. I come out of the bathroom and grab the pink dress up shirt and the black dress pants and throw them on. I quickly comb your fingers through my curly black hair, taking one last look in the mirror before exiting my room.

In the kitchen, I can hear my mom getting ready for work. She usually has lunch made for me, but today she is running late. The morning sun coming through the opened shades, I make my way to the kitchen seeing my mom frantically putting things in a paper bag.

"Hey, Maxie," She smiles seeing me all dressed up. "You ready to go to college?"

"Can't wait," I sigh sarcastically. "But college doesn't start until next week. It's the meet and greet today and tonight's the party."

"Okay sweetie. Let me know if you need a ride. Be safe," She states in her mom tone as she grabs her paper bag full of lunch. "I'll see you later."

"Bye mom."

My mom walks past me, her perfume wafting behind her. Such a sweet calming scent, making me smile and relax a little. Today was going to be a long day, but I'm hopeful of meeting new friends.

Ding!

Jeff 7:36 A.M.

You want to ride together?

Jeff and I have been friends since as long as I can remember.

Yes. Pick me up?

I quickly type a message back to him, pouring a bowl of cereal to eat before I have to run.

Ding!

Jeff 7:37 A.M.

Be there in 10!

Quickly eating my cereal, I go to my bathroom to quickly brush my teeth. Looking in the mirror, I notice that I don't look half bad. Definitely better than my last year of high school.

"Maybe I'll finally be able to get over this funk I've been in," I think to myself.

A car pulls up outside, the gravel in front of my house crunching under the tires. I look out the window and see Jeff's little Toyota parked out front. Grabbing my phone and a sweatshirt, I head out. Nearing Jeff's truck, I notice that he had the same idea about dressing nice. His brown waves finally combed back behind his ears, a nice pale green dress shirt paired with grey dress pants.

"Dude! How have you been? Glad we still think the same!" Jeff greets as I pull myself into his truck. It's been a long summer and he was away most of the time with his family.

"How else are we supposed to dress for a meet and greet?" I chuckle as I buckle the seat belt.

Jeff smiles, his eyes gleaming as he pulls out from in front of my house. I never noticed the deep brown eyes with flecks of gold in his eyes until this moment, but I can't help but stare a little longer.

"What are you staring at?" Jeff asks, eyes darting between me and the road.

"Just been a while since I saw you, sorry," I manage to get out. "Never noticed how brown your eyes are."
