It's been three years.

Three years since Nathan proposed.

Three years since Molly rushed over to hug him with tears streaming down her face.

But only two years since Nathan walked out of their (Molly loved saying their's instead of her's or his') clean white door and never came back.

Molly knows he's not dead. He sends letters and money and emails and I miss you's and I love you's and Oh how I wish you were here's. She doesn't really reply to all of them, just a short email in reply and thank you letters, etc.

He even told her where he is, in a call that lasted exactly 30 seconds ("I'm in South Texas, I'll bring souvenirs. Love you." And hangs up.) She never got a word in, but really? What could she even say.

Nathan doesn't know that she's already given up, that she has a new boyfriend named Mike that has the blondest hair, the bluest eyes, the brightest smile, and the sweetest Southern accent that gives Molly goosebumps every time he says something that makes her smile.

Derek (her gay exboyfriend) introduced them seven months after Nathan left, saying Mikey (her cute little nickname for Mike) worked at a "cozy and cute" coffee shop that was exactly 2.9 miles from Molly's apartment (she stopped calling it their's a few months back).

Mikey asked her if she wanted to go steady (he was adorably old fashioned) after only six weeks of knowing each other. She replied with a smile and said she would love to.

Slowly but surely, they started to move his stuff into Molly's apartment, Molly (with the help of Derek, because she kept crying) having cleaned all of Nathan's "junk" (Derek's words, not her's) out of her apartment.

So now there's a blue toothbrush instead of a red one that sits next to her purple one, a blue towel that sits next to her yellow towel, and a blue pair of converse sitting next to her gray pair of Toms. Molly teases Mikey relentlessly (whenever he brushes his teeth, walks around on only a towel, or slips his shoes on) about all his blue items, which he replies with only a Superman smile and a short, yet sweet kiss to the cheek.

Molly can honestly hardly remember the last time she read one of Nathan's letters, only opening them to see if there's any money in them, (and most of the time there's two new hundred dollar bills for Nathan's side of the rent) never reading the actual letter part.

You could even ask her who Nathan was, and she'd reply with no hesitation "Who's he? Your new boyfriend?" because she hasn't talked to him in forever. And she doesn't really want to.

She'd much rather slow dance with Mikey in the living room while some sappy country song played in the background. She'd much rather wake up early in the morning, while Mikey's still sleeping, and just watch him sleep, maybe count his eyelashes (which are impossibly long, by the way) for the upteenth time. She'd even sit on the counter in the kitchen with him next to her, eating her Fruit Loops or sipping some iced coffee in the morning, a comfortable silence surrounding them.

And that's what she planned to do for the rest of her life, until Nathan came back home in the middle of the night (opening the door with his key he's had for so long) barging in on them slow dancing to some random country song that was being played on the radio.

Mikey's never seen Nathan, never spoken to him, so all he really does is ask how he got the key to their (Molly's heart melted a little bit when he said that) apartment in his sweet Southern accent.

Nathan just looked at Molly, hurt in his deep brown eyes (which, Molly remembered, made her fall in love with him at that one club in the Valley), and simply said "I thought I was going to be missed, Molly-boo" and walked out.

Molly really doesn't want to leave Mikey and run after Nathan, so she doesn't. She stays in Mikey's sweet embrace, silently thinking Nathan for closing the door, and continues to sway while the Mikey hums the tune of the song.

And, for the first time in three years, she says "I love you" and means it.

A/N: I was asked by a close friend to continue this, so I did... This isn't really a one-shot, I'll be continuing this, it's just the Prolouge. If you love me, you'll Vote for it, if you're awesome, you'll fan me. I had to re-write this because this laptop sucks balls, but I like this one better than when I first wrote it... Okay, bye.
