On multiple occasions in my childhood, my older brother Julian and I would sneak out of the house to marvel at the renowned talent of the 'golden girls'. A family of dancers that performed at the local clubs and occasionally at the club my father owned: the Pacifica. Since they had arrived 4yrs prior to the time I am writing about, I can only write about what I remember of those long summer days of the year 1926.
There were 5 of them. Beatrice, Anna-Louise, Marie, Layla and the star: Diana. The notorious group was formed by their mother, the fading starlet Beryl Hayes and had toured round the country spreading joy wherever they went.
Despite the captivating glory that her sisters beheld, from the moment I met her, I only had eyes for Beatrice Hayes. The youngest sister in the famed group of dancers.
It wasn't my fault what happened. It wasn't hers either. It wasn't anyone's. though many seem to think otherwise.
