Cue Music: Guggenz - This Love I've Met
"What are you doing here anyway?" He asked me.
"I'm here because of two things. I can only tell you one unless you prove your identity to me."
"How am I supposed to do that? I have an ID card, that's about it."
"Guess I can only tell you one."
"Oh, you mean you're from Direach?"
"How did you know?"
"I got expelled. For reasons beyond me. I guess I was diving into matters I wasn't meant to see."
"Makes sense. I guess there's no point in hiding it. I'm here on a field mission. Wasn't exactly voluntary."
"What's your objective?"
"That's the thing, I don't really know. Mr. Daro, my field guide, I get the feeling he knew I would be here. He never really gave me an objective."
"I've heard of people like that. This must be some sort of test. Or perhaps a lesson."
"He knows me better than anyone else but myself. I think he also knew my second reason."
"What's that?"
"Greed. That's one of my personality afflictions. As a result, it has branched out into multiple things. Including the desire to adventure and roam around the world to gain more power and learn about my very existence. To conquer all challenges I pass through. Problem is, I'm not very level-headed."
"The fact you can recognize that is something. You must be perceptive."
"I get that a lot. And I really mean a lot."
"You came here for what then?"
"I was actually dragged here after being knocked out. But I was offered something. Infinite power. Of course, there was a catch. I have to work without any dissent for at minimum 5 years for a secret organization in order to acquire a sample of this substance."
I can't let him correlate my endeavors to his own conflict of interest. He knows of the device, I can't let him think I'm chasing after it.
"That sucks. But it's worth it for infinite power, right?"
"The thing is, this may not be the safest substance. It could kill me, or destroy all of existence."
"But you proceed anyway?"
"Like I said, I'm greedy."
"To each's own. I can't stop you, even if I tried. But I wonder if there are any other motives."
"Well, I'm also trying to learn about my past lives."
"What do you mean?"
"An ability I learned when I was a child. My ancestors' memories flow through my blood. I am able to see into their memories, and find out more about my background."
"What about it?"
"I found an anomaly. My great great grandfather, he changed history drastically."
"How so?"
"He sacrificed himself to cure the virus half a century ago that plagued the Earth and killed billions, when he was 80. In order to do so, he had to bound someone to eternal suffering."
"Who was that?"
"His wife. The worst part? It was a forced marriage. Neither consented. Some called them the most professional couple. Mutual abstinence , contribution quotas, even contractual agreements between the two. My great grandfather only existed due to being grown in a lab. A marriage with absolutely no passion. It was the most depressing thing I've ever seen. Other than that, both of them were brilliant scientists, bringing about the ability to edit somatic genetics with high fidelity and also inventing primitive transmutation, among other ideas. Their works were the most innovative of their time."
