The cold water slowly warmed as he reached the surface, his excitement bubbling with every inch he swam. The laughter of people could be heard faintly from under the crisp cool salty water. His thoughts swarming with images of the world above. Just inches from the surface he stopped, the thought of being there and people seeing him could ruin everything including his chance to do this again.
Turning around to look at his guard one last time he took a deep breath and swam up. The air was nothing like the sea it tasted sweet and salty. The heat was obvious as it slowly started to dry his skin. The laughter of people could now be heard clearly. Matthew Scanned the surface taking in every little detail he could find until his eyes landed on a girl no older than him maybe 13, her hair coral red and her eyes sea green. She walked through the sand as if it were what they called grass. Her smile was wide and strong yet it was fragile. A hand on her shoulder drew Matthews attention to a guy looking about her age.
His dark short jet black hair a mess and his dark brown eyes shining as he looks at the girl tenderly. His feet clumsy as he walks across the got sand as if it were a bed of burning coals.
Matthew deep inside longed to see the girl up close and see her true face. He longed to sing, but he knew of the fate of those were called with the sirens song for he was that was called with the horrid curse.
