It was evening and somewhere in the mumbai traffic a girl was fussing about being late again. "Ya allah, what is wrong with these people? Where do all these people go? Why don't they spend their time at home? "
The signal turned green and all the cars raced ahead.
Tashaa had left her cooking classes an hour ago but due to traffic she was stuck miserably on her main street.
"Assalam u alaikum, i am back"
She entered the house. " walekum assalam, her brother said, while working on his laptop.
"Where were you, as much as i know your lecture have ended one and a half hour back?" Her mom inquired
Tashaa took a seat on the couch disposing off her socks and loosening her scarf. "Mumbai traffic sucks."
Her mother shook her head and retreated to the kitchen. "How come you are home early?" Tashaa asked her elder brother Jasim. "I had some work, so i left early." He replied still working.
Tashaa entered her bedroom and after freshing up, she went to the kitchen to help her mom and sister in law. "Soo whats up ladies, whats the new gossip.?" She took the bowl of vegetables and sat on the dinning table to chop them. "Nothing much , just some new gossips about the latest wedding of your cousin." Tashaa looked up and chuckled. "Muhsin said the same thing today on msg, he was like, 'can you believe people are still talking about me.' "
All of a sudden the room went silent and tashaa looked up at her mother, who was stirring the gravy, "whats wrong? " her mother did not react.
"Mom Kya hua hai (what happened?) " she asked a little rough this time.
"Zarina called me today." Her mother said. "Her sister in law have asked for your hand with his son."
Tashaa went silent but after she realized her mom was waiting for her reply she said "i don't know, i need to clear my head first, i need to think."
Her mom sat beside her and said " its been two year, since you got divorced. You need to move on beta, and your father even likes Sameer and its not that you don't know him, you all youngsters are in touch with each other. I want you to think about it." Tashaa nodded and continued her work.
Dinner was usual with tashaa and her family watching the IPL match and supporting their team. Soon the day ended and everyone turned to bed.
Tashaa laid in her bed looking at the empty space beside her, two years back this time she was not alone in the room. She had a husband, though she was divorced, his memory made her smile, he was such a funny guy, such a kido, he was one of his kind, always smiling and making fun of her. Surely they had moved out on good terms, but never had they thought of staying in touch. Ahad his name was.
Flashback
"Ahad what is wrong? Why are you so upset? " she asked, when she saw him pacing in the room. He stopped and sat on the bed "because i am dead now" with that he banged his head in the cousion.
At this tashaa chuckled and he looked up "you find it funny...? Haan..? " at this tashaa put finger on her lips and nodded.
"Baba saw me today " he said
"So what baba sees you everyday !" Tashaa rolled her eyes.
".. with Asma !" He completed.
"Whattt..??? What did you do then? "
She asked a little shocked.
"What would i do, we rushed to the nearest store and exited from the back door, and before baba could reach office i was already there changed in another shirt."
He said and sat up picking the water bottel kept on bed side table.
"Wow that was quick, did he say anything?" She asked looking at him, gulping water. After he was done he replied. "Nope, but i think he didn't se Asma, so my dear wife on papers, if he asks you anything, you will tell him it was you."
Tashaa looked at him and then said
"Nope i am not lying"
"Please tashaa.!!"
She folded her hands "yaar ahad no."
Ahad stared at her with expectation so at the end she had to give up "fine, but only this time."
He smiled and took off his blanket and cusion and moved to the couch
"thank you so much."
