It was a bleak November morning when I woke up, lay upon the crisp white covers of the hospital bed. I woke to the familiar beeps and murmurs that spread up and down my corridor, to the still alien discomfort from the iv line piercing its way into my arm.
The only thing I noticed when I sat up was that it was freezing.
"Oh, Jeez!" I cry, pulling the duvet up to my chin. I couldn't think of a reason why it was so cold, even though it was mid November. 14th November, I think.
Somebody cleared their throat beside me, and it was then when I realised that I was not alone in the room. In fact, when I looked over, I saw two young women sat beside me. One had straight silver hair and the other had piercing blue eyes. I was confused about who they were, and I was sat there trying to figure out if I knew these women or not.
"Hello?" I said (or, rather asked) timidly. The one with blue eyes smiled comfortingly. It was one of them smiles which you see only so very rarely in life. It was trusting.
"Hello. We've come to speak to you about your... living arrangements." Blue eyes says, which later I find out her name is Melanie.
"What about them?"
"Well, we'd like you to come and live with us, in our 'hospice'." Grey hair (or Rachel) says.
I mull this over in my head. I know I should be more sceptic but at this point I'm pretty much open to suggests. Anything other then living in this dirty, stone cold hospital residency.
"What is your hospice for?" I ask.
"It's for people who are battling mental illness, eating disorders and other diseases/illness. It's just a big house full of people with big hearts. We all help eachother."
"I understand you deal with three of these things, yes?" asks Melanie.
"Yes that's correct."
"I also understand that you're here in hospital because of it, correct?"
I nod my head hesitantly. "Yeah..."
"We can help you. Not just us two, but the people at District Meadows. We have a daily tutor so there is no worry about school work. The ages of the people in our hospice range from age 10 to 18. We have a morning catch up session and we all eat our meals together. We also have dorms. You will be put in with Jiwoo and Leanne, in dorm 4, if you wish to come with us." Melanie says.
I notice that this Melanie woman is very... serious. She holds herself up stiffly and has the worst case of Resting B****face I've ever encountered in my life. Rachel, however, is calmer. More peaceful. She doesn't look at me with pity, either. I like her.
I take a few moments to think about this. It seems a bit sudden, but I know its in my best interest. After all, why would I want to stay here? I had no where to go but here.
"Yes. I'd like to come."
