my mind is a fire
engulfing thoughts, turning them to ash
suffocated by smoke, i turn to you
arms like twine, smoldering, exasperated with shallow breath
you lit the fire within me
igniting years of fury as it rips through my bones
you were supposed to douse the flames
instead, you soaked me in a bath of gasoline
from the grimy waters, i will rise
as a phoenix, wings ablaze
you will not hurt me anymore
