I wake up earlier than everyone else; as per usual, and begin my morning routine before heading to the mess hall to greet my uncle. When I walk in I see Uncle Hat cooking while Chris talks to him about the upcoming challenge. After I greet my uncle as normal I turn to Chris and hug him as well. "Morning, Kiddo," (kid) the host greets. "I'm glad you're up; I need to talk to you about today's challenge. You will be spending the night in the woods, but the catch is you can't take Shadow with you," he explains which causes the big cat to growl. "Shadow could be seen as an advantage because he could protect you from other animals and even hunt for you so you will have to leave him behind. I'm sorry," he explains.
"But we have rarely been apart since I found him and never for that long! I get really anxious and scared when he is away from me for long periods of time. Please, Chris?" I plead with the man.
Chris sadly shakes his head and informs me, "My hands are tied on this one, I'm so sorry Kiddo."
I look down at my feet as I wrap my arms around myself, "Okay, if that is how this is meant to be then fine. I will find a way to get through it," I say as Shadow nuzzles his head against my side.
It's okay Kit, you will be fine and I will be right here the second you get back.
I nod sadly, the thought of leaving my best friend for more than an hour scares me and makes me feel lonely but I will have to get through this.
"Well let's go, kid. The challenge will start soon," Chris beckons me.
I look at Shadow and tell him, "You stay with Uncle Hat and Chris, okay? Don't cause too much trouble and go with Chris when he meets us after the challenge. I love you Shad, and I will see you tomorrow."
I love you too, Kit. Be careful and stick with Duncan and DJ. Don't let queen witch get to you either.
I nod at him then Uncle Hat gives me a kiss on the head telling me he will watch over the big cat then I follow after Chris. We make it to the campfire and I automatically take my seat between DJ and Duncan. "Campers, today's challenge will test your outdoor survival skills. I'm not going to lie to you; some of you may not come back alive," he announces causing everyone but me to gasp. "Just joking," he continues, "All you have to do is spend one night in the woods. Everything you will need is at your teams' campsite in the forest; you just have to find it." Chris then throws a map and compass at Duncan which he caught. "Oh, and watch out for bears. We lost a couple of interns in pre-production. First team back for breakfast wins invincibility! Well, off you go," He instructs as Little Miss Control Freak snatches the map and compass from Duncan.
As we walk through the woods I walk next to Duncan with my head down and my mouth shut. He must have noticed something was up because he turns to me and asks, "What's got you down imouto?"
I look up to sadly meet his eyes and reply, "The producers wouldn't let me bring Shadow for this challenge because he could be seen as an advantage. I've never been away from him for more than an hour since the day I found him. I just feel lost without him."
