Blame It On Me

Is this what you had in mind for us?

After all the promises made,

I doubt I am the one with the greatest loss.

But greatest is the price I've paid.

But you can blame it on me,

If that makes you feel better.

Release yourself from guilt, set it free.

All that was once eternal is now shattered.

You've chosen to lose your mind,

Though I was there to try to save you.

In vain, all in vain, and you shall find

That all the things I said were true.

But I let you blame it on me, darling,

If that eases your mind from pain.

I have grown tired of trying

To bring you back to me again.

I can't change who I am, my dear.

And I won't try to keep you any longer.

This can only end up in tears,

But I won't be there to make you stronger.

And I know you blame it on me,

Though I have done nothing wrong.

You are the only one who can't see

That I've changed since you're gone.

But now that I've seen your real face

I feel like I've got back a part of me

That had been missing on the surface

Of the woman I fought to be.

And I know you blame it on me, honey,

But I forgive you with all my heart.

You might laugh at me, but it's not funny.

I was the only one who was true from the start.

But I'll let you blame it on me.
