This past week has been insane.

We got Rufus back-- it wasn't easy, but just to see the look on Jiya's face when she could hold him again was priceless. Our team was finally back together and for the most part it felt completely normal.

If I'm honest though... I don't really know how to act around Wyatt. Between learning about our future-selves (though they wouldn't tell us much) and him saying those three little words, I'm just confused. Of course he doesn't know I think any of this, I'm always been the more selfless one when it comes to our relationship, emotionally anyway.

It's not like I don't feel the same way about him... obviously I do, but he can be so careless sometimes with our relationship, I don't want to get hurt again. That's why I didn't say it back. Wyatt's going to have to do some work to get us back to the place before his wife decided oh-so-pleasantly to come back in the picture. You know, I thought maybe I was crazy for thinking negatively about her, but she did turn out to be Rittenhouse, so it wasn't really my jealousy directing my judgement in the end.

I'm just so torn.

I fell in love with Wyatt because of the man he is. I knew the consequences of starting our relationship and that if Jessica did come back that he would choose her over me. I never doubted that. I just didn't think he would let it get in the way of the team's safety or friendships the way it did. He completely alienated me, that last mission before the truth about Jessica was revealed, he couldn't even put it aside. Every remark from my ideas were rude and curt. I mean, didn't he understand that I wanted her to be the same Jessica he grew up with?

I just wasn't naive enough to believe that Rittenhouse was just trying to be kind by dropping Jessica back into time. But I wanted Wyatt to be happy, Jessica made him happy.

"Lucy?"

I whipped around, I was so engrossed in my thoughts I didn't even realize someone had entered the room. Naturally, it was the man that had been running through my thoughts anyway.

"Oh, Hey Wyatt, what's up?" I asked, trying not to give away my intense nature. "What's up with you? I knocked on the door quite a couple times. Are you okay?" Here he goes again, being such a gentleman. God, please help me.

"Oh, you know, just thinking about how crazy this past week has been with... everything." I almost said the team, but it wasn't really the rest of them. Just Rufus and Wyatt. "Tell me about it," he chuckled, only a second before continuing, "Can we talk Lucy? Please. We haven't really had time much lately between the Jessica fiasco and saving Rufus, but I really need to sort some things out with you. I've been going crazy thinking about everything that's been going on and has gone on between us and I just..." He stopped, out of breath, looking at me with pleading eyes.

I smirked, "So I'm not the only one that's been going a little crazy... Well that's good." That got him to smile.

I figured it would be good to lighten the mood before we started this conversation. After this, depending on what is said, there may be no going back to how it was before.

"Do you want to start or... ???"

"Well, I guess I should. I am the one who screwed this up after all." He paused for a second, seemingly trying to gather up the courage to have this conversation with me.

"Lucy... I know that I screwed up, bad. I put us all in danger because I was blinded by the idea that Jessica was back. I was just so happy, I thought my soulmate was back from the dead-- I didn't want to hear reason. It didn't matter to me that things didn't line up, I just figured that maybe since she was back that it could have possibly altered some of the other things in her life. I'm sorry. Not just for putting you in danger but... well... I was so mean to you. For thinking that Jessica was lying. It was cruel. Here I was, with the love of my life happy, even if I was a little suspicious of  her timeline, ignoring all of the warning signs. I mean, Jesus, I was all you had and I pushed you away for trying to look out for me. I mean the team too, but you were worried about how that would effect me in the end." He looked directly into my eyes through the whole speech-- he was sincere, as I suspected, but he didn't get everything right.

"You're wrong you know." I whispered quietly, unsure if I really wanted to admit what I was thinking or not.

"Wrong about what? That you were suspicious of Jessica because of me?"

I shook my head, "No that was right."

"Then... what?"

I looked at him, almost as if to plead with him so that I didn't have to tell him. I could never lie to Wyatt. At least not directly. "Lucy, tell me, please I need to understand what you're thinking so we can get through this... together."

I looked away from him. I didn't think I wanted to see his reaction to what I was going to say. "You said all I had was you... but that's wrong. Once Jessica came back into the picture... I... I didn't have you anymore, I had nothing." The longer I spoke the quieter I got. After a minute of silence I looked up to see sorrow piercing my own eyes. "What? I was right there."

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said anything--" I started to walk away, feeling terrible for making him feel this way, but a hand stopped my from moving.

"No," He turned me around, "Tell me what you mean." He didn't say it in a forceful way, rather he was gentle, like a child trying to understand the world.

"You were there, yes, but you weren't there. I would see you and talk to you, but I could never come to you about anything important. That's why I went to Flynn's that one night. I couldn't come to you because the truth is... everything I was feeling was because of you and it wasn't your fault. I knew you'd go back to Jessica if she ever came back, but that didn't change the fact that I was suffering because of it. On one hand, I was ecstatic because you were happy. On the other... I got screwed, again. My mom was evil, she took one of the only people I ever really cared about away because of her insane ideals and Jessica came back which meant I had nothing. And I couldn't talk to you about it because your gain turned into my loss. I didn't want to burden you with the truth-- that I was drowning like I did in that car, except this time there was nobody there to save me. It was almost the opposite, like there was somebody trying to push me farther down because you kept pushing me when I was trying to separate myself from you because I felt like I was suffocating. I couldn't breathe around you, because I felt like I had to keep this huge secret, this huge pain inside of me from you, so that you wouldn't ask how I was doing. Because the truth is, I was drowning and there was no way for you to save me-- no reason to either."  I finally finished, tears rolling down my cheeks as I tried to bottle in the past month of my life.

Wyatt stood there shocked, but once he saw my tears he rushed over and embraced my murmuring, "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry."

Once I got my barrings together I said, "Like I said earlier, it isn't and wasn't your fault."

Wyatt looked at me with an admiration, "What?" He smiled. "Lucy Preston... You truly are the most beautiful, strong, selfless human I have ever met... Thank you."

I snorted, "Why are you thanking me? For blubbering all over your shirt?"

Wyatt suddenly turned serious, "The fact that you let me have my time with Jessica when that's how you felt... That's incredible."  He started to walk away when he paused and turned around, "Don't worry Lucy. I'll earn you, just like I did the first time. A woman like you... needs to be respected and in order to do that, I think it's time I started back at square one. I love you and I hope you're willing to give this little old solider another shot once I've earned it... baby doll."

I walked past him to the door, turning and pausing like he did, "Well then I guess you better get started, because you've got a lot of work to do if you want this broad back, shweetheart."
