A reflection, a mirror image of one's self. What most people don't realize is that it doesn't necessarily only mean ones physical self, it means a person as a whole. Nobody can hide anything from their reflection. Not a single desire, feeling, emotion... It's futile, pointless in a way. It would be like lying to yourself, which people actually do a lot of, but this time you're doing it face to face and the other face is your own self. A bit unnerving don't you think.
You're probably wondering why I'm telling you all this well to explain that I'm going to need to tell you a little story.
It starts with a little girl. Who was bought up in a church and who had very little to her name. The only thing that she truly owned was a neckless that was around her neck at the time she was found as a baby abandoned in front of the church. This necklace had a locket with a mirror in it. A mirror made of obsidian. This girl's magic was that of a seer, a speaker of the future and the item that helped her with her divination was the mirror she held so dear and would never let anyone but herself touch.
As the years passed and she grew older so did her power, along with her beauty. With her hazel brown eyes and lustrous black hair she had the attention of many men. Including that of a god.
The god's name was Tezcatlipoca an Aztec god of the night sky, the night winds, hurricanes, the north, the earth, obsidian, enmity, discord, ruler ship, divination, temptation, jaguars, sorcery, beauty, war and strife and this god with his very strong connection to obsidian would feel the girl's power through the mirror and see her face in it every time she looked at her reflection. Eventually the god made contact with her. He spoke to her through the mirror almost every day for seven years and then finally fell in love. When he told the girl, who was now a women what he felt. She told him she was already in love with another, married and had two children of her own. The god though not convinced by what she said decided to see if what she shared with her husband was truly love. He held a test and both husband and wife failed it. Devastated and enraged with her rejection and dishonesty the god cursed her, that the next time she gazed at her own reflection in the mirror she would lose her mind.
Sadly the women did not believe the curse to be true and did gaze upon her reflection. She soon went insane and later died. Her death though was not enough for the god so he placed the same curse on any seer girl born to that family, unless the girl passes the test the god will give her she just like the women he claimed to love will lose their minds and die.
So the family itself took measures to protect its future children. They cast a spell to remove the possibility of the power of foresight to appear in their family, but of course no spell is ever perfect and I would know.
My name is princess Aania Argon and the women in that story was one of my direct ancestors. I was born into this family with the power of a seer. I have the same hazel eyes as my ancestor and the same black hair. Making me someone who is very vulnerable to the curse Tezcatlipoca cast upon my family and because of that I have never once in my life seen my own reflection. There are no mirrors at my home or obsidian for the matter. I have no real idea on how I look and by the time I turned thirteen even my true appearance itself was taken from me. An illusion spell they had said, for extra precaution was cast and because of it.
Gone were my hazel eyes which were now an ocean blue. Taken was my black hair which was now blonde. I was no longer wholly myself and until the day came were my eyes were to meet that of my reflection and I pass my test I will never truly be myself and that is a fate I have come to accept.
