I've written a few of the stories in this book, but most of them aren't my own work. All credit goes to the owners of the stories I didn't write. I hope you enjoy!

The Room Upstairs

We had just moved into our new house. It was an old Victorian style house that was bulit around the 1800's. Every time I went into the house, I had a funny feeling. It was just a really creepy house. I tried to tell my mom how I felt, but she brushed it off as my imagination over-reacting.

One night my mom had to work so I was home alone. We had only moved in about a month before and there were still a lot of rooms to explore. I had explored the main floor and the second floor too. The only rooms left were the basement and the attic. I figured that the basement would most likely be haunted and if I got in trouble, I would be stuck, so I oppted for the attic. I slowly climbed the stairs to the second floor, armed with a flashlight and the smallest courage I could muster from inside me. I was completely terrified, but if this was my new home, I had to at least explore the areas I would be living in.

As I walked up to the second floor, I could hear soft footsteps walking around the attic.

"Hello?" I called, hoping it would just be my imagination. "Hello? Is anyone up there?" I called again. I opened the door to the stairs leading to the attic. I could still hear the soft footsteps walking and I began to get scared. Anyone who's footsteps were that light and quiet had to be a child, but I didn't have any brothers or sisters.

I climbed the rest of the stairs an reached the attic. I was immediately relived that I saw no one was up there. It must've been my imagination running wild again.

The attic was completely empty. There was only dust on the floor and cobwebs in the rafters. It was a large room, with 3 windows. I thought that was strange, considering we had 4 windows when you looked from the outside. Maybe there was another room? I walked towards the wall with no window, and my heart stopped cold. I heard a giggle come from the other side of the wall. I walked up to it, and tapped 3 times. 2 quick ones and 1 slow one. I was amazed but terrified to hear the same pattern knocked back. I walked along the wall and looked for a crack between the boards. There was a small hole about the size of a loonie, barely big enough for me to look through.

I peaked through and saw nothing. It was a small room, with the remaining window on the side opposite to me. There was only one piece of furniture in the room- a wooden chair. Other than that, the room was empty.

I heard the giggle again, and it seemed to be coming from behind the chair. That's weird, I thought. How could someone hide behind a small chair and I don't notice them?

"Hello, is anyone in there?" I said, hoping that maybe the child would reveal itself. I seen a small child's face peak out from behind the chair. My heart was thudding in my chest so loud that it drowned any other noise out. The child stood up. It was a girl about 6, holding a scraggly, old teddy bear in her hand. She terrified me. not because there was a girl in my attic, but because she had no face. Where there should've been eyes, it was pale and blank skin. She pointed towards me and started to walk closer to me.

That was my last straw. I screamed at the top of my lungs and ran out of the attic and down the stairs. When I got to the bottom, I slammed the door shut and shoved the nearest hall table in front to lock it.

I never could forget about that room upstairs.
