"Ok let me tell you this, I'm so pissed with you I mean, you got the talent and the looks but you don't have confidence in yourself that you can do it. You need to embrace these fears and go on the stage, it may be a bit scary at first but once you finish this once in a lifetime performance you'll get a breath of fresh air and you can slowly take the steps to break out of your shell. This is that opportunity, Aiz." Cheska smiled at me as she patted my head once again.
"Ok?" She winked at me and then laughed.
Sigh. "Ok, great. Just great," I sighed with defeat. But hey, maybe this might be the time.
As Cheska gave her last 'good luck' ritual which is kind of hilarious and eased the tension I'm feeling, she sprinted back to the chairs at the front beside the seats of my parents and classmates while I went to the backstage room, where my fellow contestants are.
Many of them looked professional with their suits and gowns. And there are also some who looked kind of weird and it gave me the creeps. So the contest started, and I watched many contestants leaving one by one as their numbers are called. Well, I'm number 15, which is the last contestant of the night and I'm the one who will carry the heavy burden of closing these freaking show!
As the number 13 was called, I was left with one other guy who, I guess, will be number 14. I couldn't see his face because he's looking the other way, but all I know is he's holding a brown 4-stringed ukulele.
With contestant number 13 almost finishing her performance, I started to chant random stuff which I can't understand like that one line from a TV show. "Mekeni mekeni dug dug doremi, mekeni mekeni dug dug doremi..." I chanted simultaneously.
"Pffft... Ehmm" I heard this other guy chuckled and then pretended to clear his throat, trying to hide the fact that he's making fun of me.
"Hey you–" I stood up, about to confront him then...
"Contestant number 14!" Shoot! It's almost my turn. I continued to chant whatever I'm chanting as I closed my eyes, then I felt a pat on my head.
"You'll be alright..." I heard him say. I completely opened my eyes, looking at his direction.
He's already gone to the stage.
I opened the door leading to the stage slightly, enough for me to see what's going on. And there, I saw the guy, although I can't properly see his face but I'm completely sure it's him. He's sitting in a stool, holding the ukulele in a stance that he's about to strum it, with a microphone in front him.
And before I knew it, he started to play...
"We Could Happen"
I'll hold the door
Please come in
And just sit here for a while.
This is my
Way of telling you I need you in my life.
It's so cold
Without your touch.
I've been dreaming way too much
Can we just
Turn this into reality.
(He kind of has a nice tone. It's nice to listen to it. It's really soothing. I swayed with every beat of the music, I mean, the song's meaning is kind of CUTE?)
Cause I've been
Thinking 'bout you lately.
Maybe you could save me,
From this crazy world we live in.
And I know we could happen,
Cause you know that I've been feeling you.
Storms they will come
But I know,
That the sun will shine again.
He's my friend,
And he says that we belong together.
I'll sing a song,
To break the ice.
Just a smile from you would suffice.
It's not me,
Being nice girl this is real tonight.
(I unknowingly put my hand to my chest. This is weird. Am I going crazy?)
Cause I've been
Thinking 'bout you lately.
Maybe you could save me,
From this crazy world we live in.
And I know we could happen,
Cause you know that I've been feeling you.
I know you want me.
There's no other,
There's no other love.
That I'd rather have,
You know.
There ain't no one,
There ain't no one else.
I want you for myself.
(I can see the audience from where I'm at and wow! He surely hyped everyone up... Everyone's clapping to the beat. Even Cheska is doing it. Hmph, traitor. But wow, this guy's really something.)
Cause I've been
Thinking 'bout you lately.
Maybe you could save me,
From this crazy world we live in.
And I know we could happen,
Cause you know that I've been feeling you.
I know you want me too.
(As he's about to finish his song, my phobia started to sink in me really fast and I started to shiver. Shoot.)
Cause I've been
Thinking 'bout you lately.
Maybe you could save me,
From this crazy world we live in.
And I know we could happen,
Cause you know that I've been feeling you.
I know you want me too.
I can see the standing ovation from the crowd. They are really impressed with his performance, including me. But with me being next, he kind of added a whole new level of pressure on me. I started to quiver as I waited for my number to be called. And without further ado...
"Last but not the least, Contestant number 15!"
Crap! I cursed in my mind. What am I gonna do!
I slowly made my way to the center of the stage. My mind going blank. Then...
The music started. The spotlight is pointed at me, almost blinding me. The cheers of my friends and family can be heard, chanting my name. I slowly opened my eyes.
All eyes are on me. My knees began to shake. My hands started trembling and it's even more obvious as I am holding the mic. My palms are now sweaty. The first verse is about to come up. I slowly lifted the microphone. And then–
"I'M SORRY!"
*SCREECH!* the microphone let out a rather high pitched sound as it fell to the ground.
****************
"NOOOOOO!" I snapped my eyes open realizing it's all a dream.
