"Oh no!" Copper said frantically. "I'm going to be late! Why did the line have to be so long today". Today was just like any other day for Copper Flond, a 13 year old boy whose life got flipped over on its head in a matter of days. Copper was doing his daily food gathering for his "friend" Jack. Jack Jones was your typical bully. Picking on the weak to look strong, and for him it worked.People didn't bother Jack cause they were afraid they would end up like Copper, an errand boy. Copper however wasn't your typically bullied victim. He thought Jack was his closest friend simply because he was told so. See, Copper would believe anything you tell him. He did this because he wanted to be accepted by others. Unfortunately Jack was the first one to talk to Copper so no one else did.

"You're late" Jack said with a snarl. "Sorry, the line was longer today then normal" Copper explained. "Well then you should have ran faster to get their earlier" Jack exclaimed in his rough voice "I've been starving to death while waiting. You want me to die, idiot?" "Of course not, I'd never want that" Copper said apologizing. "Whatever, just give me the food". And with that, Copper handed over the food he paid for and watched Jack eat it. As lunch ended the two went back to class and waited for the day to end.

The next morning as class started the teacher said something unexpected. "Okay everyone, today we have a new student joining us. Please come in". As the door opened a girl walked in. She had black hair and was wearing a light grey sweater and dark blue jeans. Copper though she looked nice but that's about it. "Hello, my name is Silvia Lopela. Nice to meet you all" The girl said with a smile. Copper wasn't to interested in her so he stared out the window and waited for lunch.

As the bell for lunch rang Copper hurried to get in line at the cafeteria so he wouldn't be late like yesterday. When he was finished getting the food, Copper gave it to Jack. Suddenly "Splat" there was a bologna sandwich smeared over Copper. "I asked for a ham sandwich! Do you know what ham is!" Jack yelled angrily. Copper, wiping the food of himself, replied "That's all they had left" "Didn't I tell you yesterday to run faster." Jack said in a commanding way. "I tried. I ran as fast as I could" said Copper. "Well then i'm gonna have to give you a workout to get you to run faster" And with that, Jack threw a punch straight to Coppers stomach making him crouch down. What followed was more punches and kicks. Copper closed his eyes and waited for it to be over. When the kicks and punches were over Copper heard "we're still friends, right?". With a broken smile Copper replied "Yes".

Their lay Copper on the ground beaten up at the back of the school. He closed his eyes and listened to the chatter of other students on the other side of the building. As he listened he hears steps coming closer. Copper sat up expecting to see Jack, but it was Silvia who entered his vision. "Are you all right? You look horrible. Did that Jack kid do this to you?" Silvia bombarded Copper with questions. "I'm okay. This is what friends do anyway" Copper said smiling the best he could. "No it's not" Silvia said sadly " friends don't beat each other up. They care for each other and have fun with one another." Copper looking confused replied "But that's not what Jack said" "While Jack is wrong!" Silvia exclaimed. Copper was really confused now. How could Jack be wrong? Copper spent most of his life listening to Jack and believing him. "You're wrong! Jack wouldn't lie to me. I'm his friend!" Copper said desperately. " Do you see anyone else being friends like you and Jack?". That's when Copper froze. He never saw anyone else running errands like him or getting beat up by their friends. Was Silvia right? Copper didn't know. He didn't know who was telling the truth. Just then the bell rang. Copper took this chance to run off and used the excuse "I gotta get to class".

When Copper got home he went straight to his room. He felt lost not knowing who to believe. He didn't have any other friends to talk to so he decided to look on the internet. A simple search of " What are friends like" made Copper feel like the world was a lie. All the answers the internet game him proved Silvia right. Friends don't beat each other up, they don't run errands for each other. If Jack wasn't Coppers friend then who was? Copper could think of no one. He was alone. Copper just wanted the day to be over so he went to bed.

The next day was probably the hardest day of Coppers life. He felt like everything was a lie. What the teachers told him, what the news said, everything. It was like living in a fake world. The only good thing about that day was that he got Jacks food to him on time. No getting beat up today. But still, Copper felt lost. With no one to talk to, his last option was to go back to the internet. It was the only way he could try and find the truth, but what he found was far from it. Copper stumbled upon this website. Little did he know it was a suicide appreciation website. In bold letters at the front it read " Suicide is the only way to get rid of the lies that haunt us". Copper new that suicide was normally protreid with negativity but it made sense to him. If he was gone he wouldn't have to deal with anymore lies. With this being the only solution Copper found he decided to jump from the tallest window in the school tomorrow as the last bell rang. With his new plan Copper went home and prepared for tomorrow.

Copper woke up feeling horrible. Knowing today's your last day isn't a nice thing to wake up to. Still, Copper gathered his things and headed for school. At school Copper did his best to act normal. Not like it really mattered, No one was his friend anyway. Out of the blue Silvia approached Copper. "Are you ok?" Silvia asked worryingly. Copper didn't expect this. He didn't want to say "No i'm not ok" so he thought, If the whole world is a lie then I may as well tell a lie myself. With that though Copper replied " I'm fine" and walked away.

With the end of school only a few minutes away that also meant that Coppers death was also a couple minutes away. Copper was prepared to go. Not much he was leaving behind. "Ringgg". The bell rang. As everyone headed for the doors Copper headed up the stairs. Silvia noticed this and decided to follow Copper to see where he was going. She was worried. Looking out from the top floor window Copper could see the whole town where he lived. It looked nice from up their. "A beautiful lie". Copper began going threw his memories trying to find something that wasn't false, something he could actually believe in, but he found nothing. With one last look out the window Copper put his foot on the windowsill when he heard a sudden "STOP!". Copper looked back and was pulled away from the window falling over. When Copper opened his eyes he saw Silvia under him. Shocked he tried to stand up, but then Silvia hugged him. "It's okay. I know it hurts but killing yourself won't solve anything" Silvia said trying to comfort Copper. "How else am I gonna get rid of all the lies?" Copper said. " Follow your heart" Said Silvia "Do stuff that makes you happy" "I don't know what happiness is." Copper said starting to cry. "I have no friends and I can't trust anyone anymore." "It's okay Copper. I'll be your friend" Silvia said in a honest voice. " Really?" Copper said threw his tears. "Yes Copper, I'll be your friend". And with that Copper cried his heart out in the gentle embrace of Silvia's arms.
