A/N This is my experimental short story from a child's perspective, my first time attempting to write from a child's pov!

My breath caught in my throat as I heard an explosive boom. I rushed to the closest window and tried to peer out, but found I was too short. I ran to the kitchen and found a chair to use as a step stool. When I climbed up my eyes rounded in awe as I watched colorful lights bloom across the sky. "Fireworks, Livvy." Mommy walked up to me and picked me up whispering playfully in my ear, "Want to go chase some fireworks?" I responded by squirming out of her arms and running as fast as I could for the front door, slipping my favorite light-up running shoes on and yanking it open. Laughter followed me out as I stood still and swiveled around, trying to figure out which direction to go. "This way mommy, hurry!" Pointing in the direction I want to go, I take off, my little feet slapping against the pavement of the sidewalk, my braids swinging. In no time at all mommy catches up and we run together listening for the telltale booms or the shrill squeals of the fireworks. Occasionally, we crane our necks up at the sky trying to spot more sparkles of color. Slowly I feel myself beginning to tire out, I'm huffing and puffing, running out of breath. Not having a choice but to slow down, I stop running but determined, I keep walking forwards. "Livvy! Are you tired? We can turn back if you want." Mommy looks at me waiting with patient brown eyes for my answer. "I don't wanna, we're so close, I know it! I can make it, just a little bit further..." When we turn the corner, we spot gold sparkles mixed with purple, lighting up the night sky and mingling with the soft glow of moonlight. Looking for a patch of grass, we sit and enjoy the show, as the sky fills with noise and colors, patterns and shapes. As the stars are outshone by the brightness of the fireworks. All too soon, it's over. We stand up and head home, our adventure ending and our goal satisfied.
