Walking around in the city near our territory is something I've done for longer than I can remember, and to think, it has changed so much over time.
As a werewolf, I've lived a longtime, and seen more than I probably should have. I've been around since shortly after my state of California was first founded and the area was still mostly forest.
Walking down the street, coffee in hand, I pass shops I know like the back of my hand, and I find myself searching for something.
Can't say I know what for, but I've been searching for years. Suddenly I find myself plummeting toward the ground, and hearing the cooing of a pigeon.
By instead of feeling the hard ground I was expecting, I feel arms steadying me,
"Are you alright?" A soft, baritone, voice asks me. My heart seems to stop as I freeze up. My coffee is spilled on the ground, luckily none on me or Mr. Mystery.
"Ma'am?'
"S-sorry..' I shake my head to clear it, "and I'm just fine thanks to you."
Mr. Mystery chuckles, "Guess I was just in the right place at the right time." This is when I finally look up at him. He's noticeably taller than me, with a lean build, but he wasn't scrappy. He definitely had some muscle to him, and he had broad shoulders, soft dark eyes, and his hair looked looked even softer, his hair was what my friend Allison would call "Bed-Head Chic". His hair was slightly curled and a chestnut brown color. His skin was well tanned and he was overall attractive.
He had this scent about him, obviously a werewolf -think I forgot to mention that- but it was different. It smelled like the first breeze on a warm summer morning, and it kinda drew me closer to him. I realized I was staring and looked away, my face flushing,
"Didn't catch you name," he said expectantly, stretching out the word 'name'.
"I didn't throw it." I replied sarcastically, he chuckled. Damn.. even his laugh was attractive. That didn't help my case in the slightest bit.
"Taelyr." I said softly, offering him a smile.
"Nice to meet you Taelyr, I'm Devin." I smiled and echoed,
"Devin, eh? " his name felt right on my tongue. Why is my wolf getting so excited?
You're stupid.. Luciana, my wolf, muttered.
Why is this so? I chided back.
He's your mate. Then she hid herself and my cheeks flushed,
"You sure your okay?" He said, a worried edge to his voice, "There's a bench just over there if you wanna sit-"
I cut him off, waving my hand dismissively, "I'm fine."
He nodded warily. Then he asked, "Can I ask you a question?"
"Yes, you can ask me a other question. " I teased.
He gave a small smile and the asked, "What pack are you from?" I quirked a brow,
"Really just, digging with the questions, eh?"
He blushes slightly, "Sorry.."
"No, no it's fine! " I waved my arms sporadically, "I was just giving you a hard time." He nodded,
"Silver Rain Pack." I said simply. I waited expectantly for his over-excitement, but to no avail, he just shrugged and nodded, "Cool. "
I can't tell you how grateful I was in that moment. Unlike others who found out about my powerful heritage, he wasn't groveling at my feet begging for worthiness.
Then he said something even more surprising, "Wanna get some coffee? Seeing yours has spilled after your brawl with the pigeon, I thought maybe you'd like more. My treat." I smiled at his out-of-the-blue offer.
I then shrugged and nodded, "Don't see why not, but first I think me must mourn the loss of Sir Coffee the First."
Devin laughed, "Yes, he must have a proper garbage-can-coffee funeral service."
