things didn't work out so well

it was high time to move on

mom .. all of us kids moved to Texas

our other Uncle Jimmy .. Aunt Sis lived there

Arlis called .. he and mom got back together

twisters .. wind and sand storms made for hellish weather

Winnie-Stowell, Texas .. a small oil boom town

Uncle Jimmy worked offshore with some of his friends

Aunt Sis was a highly busy socialite .. drinking all the time

one four-way redlight .. cousin Dennis shot it down

with a 20 gauge shotgun every Saturday night

he was dog drunk every time he did it

all those Texas rednecks had nothing to do

they raced pick-up trucks .. one in drive .. the other in reverse

driver's window next to driver's window .. cold beer in hand

they'd lay down rubber until their trannys' screamed

Uncle Earl .. Aunt Yvonne .. cousin Kevin resided there

Uncle Edward .. Aunt Katie .. cousin John Ed too

grandmother Eva had relocated to Winnie .. leaving Louisiana

it was kind of crazy .. I hardly ever saw any girls my age

being a bored kid .. i'd hangout at the local Dairy King

sometimes i'd see girls there .. I knew I was at the right place

every table had a mini-jukebox .. speakers were scratchy at best

if you ever drove through there .. saw a car on the side of the road

it was usually an out of towner .. locals didn't like

all windows were broken out .. it's how those Texas hombres roll

one Saturday afternoon I met a girl named Patty

asked if she'd like to go see a movie

sure she replied .. my dad's the bijou manager

all of a sudden I felt nervous .. held my ground

ended up watching lots of movies with her

not many of them were very good

i'll never forget the day I met sweet Patty Cathey

at that old fashioned drive-in Dairy King

Crimson and Clover was playing .. over and over
