I sip the bitter drink am currently holding. I can't still believe the past events. It all started with a kiss. A kiss that I gave Ryan, my best friend. I know what you're thinking. I broke number 3 of the rules of love. Really. I feel terrible. Who is crazy enough to kiss their best friend? Currently I am .And am paying for it. Ryan won't talk to me. He even said he doesn't want to see me. I clearly heard him say that I was dead to him. That brings me back to my current state and place. Am currently on a bridge deciding on whether or not to take away my life. Not that am escaping life because am a weak ass or anything like that. Just that I have nothing to live for .Or no one. Just then, a car stops in front of me and I immediately shoot up .Then the driver gets off the car. I step back and now am almost the edge of the bridge. "What are you doing here by yourself? "I hear someone say and I immediately feel sad. A part of me really hoped it was Ryan. That he had come to get me. Wait, ..Ryan actually had no idea of my whereabouts. "Are you alright,? "the stranger asks again. "Don't come any closer, "I shout ."Am not going to hurt you, give me your hand.. Please, "he says getting closer and closer. My heart starts racing. He then grabs me before the unexpected happen.I trip and we both are on the air. I actually didn't think the distance down was this far. I finally did what I came for. I remember Ryan. His smile.. "I love you Ryan,"I whisper to the harsh air before something hard hits my head and I lose consciousness.
I hear someone humming a song and I lazily open my eyes.. The sun is shining so brightly that it's burning my eyes. Wait, why am I seeing the sun?I raise up to find am laying on grass. Freaking grass. Then my eyes meet dark brown eyes which I have never seen before. "Where in the freaking world am I? "I shout."And who are you? "I continue after he's silent. He looks surprised that I even woke up. Then he approaches me. "Trust me princess, I have no idea where you are, "he says.
"What happened? "I ask.
"You happened,, see, I was going somewhere important and you just had to be by the roadside,. "he says annoyed. Now I remember. We fell off. And now we are here.We must have been carried by the water after falling off. "Am Benny by the way,. "he says after noticing my silence.. I look at him. "Delia ,"I whisper. He smiles. "And am gay, "he says and my eyes widen and my mouth opens. Both involuntary. Really. Couldn't he just keep that one detail to himself? My life is really screwed.And I wish it was more like a soap opera or a love story where my prince charming and me would get trapped in an island and you know -romance and stuff. But who am I kidding? I can't be that lucky.
"So ,Benny,, the not so straight guy, am hungry, "I say truthfully. He takes his hand and puts on his mouth like a girl. OK. No doubt his gay. "You don't see any food here, do you delia ? "he asks. I get up. How would we survive? I survey the place .It's deserted. I don't see any houses. But the water is nearby. Maybe we could catch fish or anything from the water. "Do you know how to fish? "I ask. He shakes his head and looks away . Damn it.Am on my own. I walk to the water. I don't really know how to catch fish or anything but I don't want to die because of hunger. Says the girl who almost committed suicide. Actually who unsuccessfully committed suicide. The irony. "Ail collect some firewood, "I hear Benny say. Really world. Really. After minutes of being not so lucky I mysteriously catch one fish. It's not enormous or anything close to that. But it's something. I get out of the water to meet Benny who has already some wood.His smile is visible. "You know that wood goes hand in hand with fire, right? "I ask. He grins sitting down. I have a feeling that he doesn't really know how to lit a fire. But I don't ask.I take the wood and lit the fire. It's pretty easy.I was a scout back then and a've been in quite many hikes. I leave Benny roasting the fish while I roam around. I hoped of finding fruits but I don't. Am met by trees. Many trees. Forest maybe. I head back to find Benny eating his part of the fish without me. Jerk. He didn't wait for me. I sit beside him and take my share. "So ,you atleast need to tell me why you were on that bridge, "he says. Suddenly the lonely feeling I felt creeps right back. All the memories I had fill my head.And my heart sinks. My appetite flies away (if that's even possible) and I put the fish down. I look right at Benny. He clearly regrets being the one to remind me of my past events. "Unreciprocated love, "I simply state not really comfortable sharing the details."I can relate, "he says before giving me an entire story on his past love life. A few times here and there, I had to stop him from pouring out all his heart out. As much as I love hearing love stories and everything, his stories ain't so appealing if you know what I mean.. But they do make me feel much better. I guess.
We then decide to take that path to the forest hoping to find help especially in getting back home. Not for me, really but for Benny. He clearly had a life back there. I would find a way out of the woods. I atleast owed him that especially coz he was trapped here because of me. We pass trees.Many trees and the further we get the darker it becomes. Benny is behind me incase anything attacks.I had to be the one to die first according to him.Birds chatting is our music.We walk for several hours still nothing. No clearance. No house. No help. Benny sits down and I do the same. Am exhausted .And it's very dark. I take the remaining part of the fish and after one bite, I give the rest to Benny. He does need strength more than I do. Am just thirsty and come to think of it, we should have carried some water. Wait, we didn't have bottles. Welcome to my world. "Delia, are you sure this place is safe for us to sleep at? "Benny asks as I lay down .I didn't care if it was safe coz I was tired of walking. I needed rest. "We'll just have to find out in the morning, if we don't wake up then.. It was a terrible idea, "I say shutting my eyes. I feel Benny beside me. He says nothing more. He must be tired too. Poor guy. It doesn't take so much time before sleep catches up with my poor ass.
Birds singing wake me up the next morning. And how I know it's morning is because I can see the sun rising far in the horizon. And coming to think of it,. The sun is incredibly beautiful. I still wonder why it's called a dwarf star while it seems bigger than all the others. Science.. I look beside me and Benny is sleeping peacefully. Turns out sleeping there wasn't a bad idea afterall. "Benny,. a tiger,"I shout to his ears and he shoots up curling himself into a ball. Damn it. His eyes search the entire place before they meet mine. It takes some time before he realizes I was joking and his features relaxes a bit."You do know delia you could just have asked me to wake up, right? "he says coming closer. "And what's the fun in that? "I ask rolling my eyes. He's beside me in no time tickling me.Tigers didn't exist in the entire continent. Either he had little knowledge in science or history or he was just scared because we were so far away from home . We continue our way. More trees. It's quite interesting not finding any animal. Not that I want any, but it's just strange .We walk for hours. No one talks. Am hungry and am sure Benny's too ."Hey, look, .."Benny says pointing forward. That's when I see it. A mansion in the middle of the jungle. Strange. But well, it's better than nothing."Do you think we should really approach it? "I ask now looking at Benny. He's currently playing with his curled hair. Which is cuter than mine by the way. But that's not the point."I think we got no other option, "he pauses. "But you'll walk in first of course ,"he finishes.Jerk.I look at the mansion. Apparently there's no fence. Creepy. I Drag my feet with each part of me wanting to run off from that place and not look back.A major part of me. But something also tells me it's a beginning of something. Call it illusion but there is just something driving me towards the house. I see two windows.I think of maybe finding the backdoor and using it but discard that thought. What could be so bad, anyway? I slowly open the doorknob and the door swings open. Thank goodness it wasn't locked. Then we hear noises. Not from human. An animal. Benny is squeezing my shoulders in no time. He's terrified. So am I. It resembles a dog but bigger. Wait, no dog is that big. Even a wild dog isn't. Unless it's.... I can't breathe. Or move. It approaches. Benny is off me in no time and probably searching for a place to hide himself.Or he ran off. I don't really know coz I haven't taken my eyes off the creature. It reaches me and pushes me to the ground with so much intensity. I wait for it to attack but it doesn't. It just looks at my eyes.. "Jason stop it, "I hear someone say and the creature is off me in no time and I watch it transform into human before passing out.
I wake up. Dark brown eyes meet mine."She's the one Catherine,"he says his eyes not leaving mine. The so called Catherine approaches and examines me. Like checks my hair, my eyes, my teeth. Am really uncomfortable. What in planet earth are they talking about? "She has no idea what she is Jason ,"she says and I immediately get up. These two are not human. Especially Jason. "Where's Benny,? "I ask and they roll their eyes to the corner.He has curled himself to a ball in the corner. He's probably crying. Poor guy."Look, we just need food and water and be on our way, if you don't mind, "I say. Jason stands and closes the distance between us. My heart starts beating faster ."You delia, are the last curse , you're the means to the end according to the prophecy, "he says and I burst laughing. His eyes remain cold.His serious. "Okay,, I know my life sucks and everything but I wouldn't really call it a curse,or worse call myself a curse, "I say amused. They can't be serious.. Last I checked, am delia, a girl who will probably die without having a boyfriend or a great love. Yeah, those girls exist. Love wasn't really meant for everybody. Not everyone was that lucky. "You're a werewolf too, "he says and I laugh so hard that everything hurts. Yeah, right .Really. Really world. Werewolf,. "You need to take this seriously, "Catherine says .She has no idea how much I would like that, but.. A werewolf. Me..? It's naturally funny. " How can I be a wolf? "I ask honestly. A've not been bitten by one. I mean I just saw one for the first time today. And it or he didn't bite me so no ain't a werewolf. End of story. "You're part of the curse delia ,you were born a werewolf, you're a pure breed ,the last of them all, "Jason continues and he loses my attention immediately. I just want to go home. "Actually delia, there's something you need to know, "Benny says and we both look in his direction. I had even forgotten his existence ."You did hit your head real hard after the accident, I even thought I had lost you, then, you just woke up.. No scar, no blood,, nothing, "he says and I roll my eyes. Now he just gave Jason and Catherine even more crap for them to think am a werewolf. Way to go Benny. He really is stupid. No offence though. "There is something called strong immunity, am I the only one who believes in science? "I ask and they all just stare. "There is also God, you know.. "I continue. Silence follows. "I am not a freaking werewolf for crying out loud, "I shout. What is really going on coz I don't really understand. "Only one way to find out, "Jason says. "That's just great, do tell,.. "I say sarcastically. They can't really be serious. "The full moon is tomorrow, if you don't turn, then you ain't one of us, "he says. Light at the end of the tunnel. Finally. Ail take it. "Any food in the house, am starving, plus I need a shower, "I say.Catherine walks out throwing her hands in the air. Jason follows. I guess ail just have to find out if there's food for myself. I roam about the place and my heart melts when my eyes come face to face with a fridge filled with all kinds of drinks and cereal . I thought I would never see real food again. I take one drink. Then two. Three. And I lose count. The scared rat Benny joins me later with apologetic eyes. He's really a big mouth, but well am kinda used to him so I just pull him for a hug before he pushes me away and takes drinks instead. How annoying.We then head upstairs and make ourselves comfortable on the one little bed that is there and am in another world in no time.
