We Can't Be

Chapter 4: Monthly Lunch

After that little moment on the balcony, neither of us really said anything. We just enjoyed the peace and quiet, and the view of the night sky; I guess you can also include each other's company.

It didn't take long until Brad said he had to go home already since it was getting late. Pumasok ulit kami sa loob at nakita namin na wala na sina Julie at Mika, pero wala na rin yung mga pinagkainan nila.

"Looks like tinulugan na ko ng dalawa." I said as I walked to the sink to put down my mug. "Brad, akin na yung tasa mo. Hugasan ko na. You can go ahead." I told him while I started washing my mug. "Thanks, Rina. Samahan nalang muna kita. I can spare a few minutes." He said while he placed the glass in the sink. "Wag na. Umuwi ka na. May curfew kayo diba?" I asked as I finished washing the mugs. "Hihintayin ko lang naman na matapos ka diyan." He answered while he used his phone. I laughed and replied "Ewan ko sayo Martinez. Sige na nga. Patapos na rin naman ako." while I tidied up the dining table and put the mugs back in the cabinets. 

After unplugging the electric fans and chargers, I walked over to Brad who was using his phone while leaning on the counter. "Brad, tapos na ko. Pwede ka nang umuwi." I said. "Bilis mo naman." He replied, still scrolling through his phone. I snatched his phone and said "Eh mga baso lang naman natin yung hinugasan ko. Ikaw talaga, hilig mo gumamit ng phone kahit may kausap ka." While I began scrolling through his phone. He snatched his phone back and said "Grabe di naman. Kala ko kasi may ginagawa ka pa." then he gave me that smile again. "Akala mo lang yon. Wag kang madala sa maling akala ah? Nakakasakit daw yon." I said, causing us both to laugh as we made our way to the door. "Lalim ng hugot. Gabi na ah? Baka sa lalim ng hukay mo diyan, di ka makatulog." He answered. I laughed again then opened the door. 

"Umuwi ka na nga. Kanina ka pa eh." I said while I lightly pushed him out the door. "Ito na po. Uuwi na. Thanks for tonight." He replied as looked at me, still smiling. I looked at him with a confusing face and said "Ha? Di ba dapat ako yung magpasalamat kasi ikaw nagdala ng pagkain?". "Yeah but, I just wanted to thank you for the company." He replied. "Goodnight, Rina. I'll see you tomorrow?" he added. "Goodnight, Brad. Maybe not. I'll be hanging out with my friends tomorrow. We have this monthly lunch." I answered. "Oh okay. No problem. Message mo nalang ako kapag free ka. Bye Rina. Goodnight ulit." He replied and walked away. 

Pagkasara ko ng pinto, pinatay ko na yung mga ilaw at dumiretso sa banyo para maligo. Pagkatapos ko maligo, pumunta na ko sa kwarto at humiga sa kama. Sinubukan kong matulog, pero wala. Gising na gising pa rin utak ko.

'Why try to remember it all, when you can just forget them?'

Those words kept repeating in my head as I was lying down on my bed, trying to fall asleep. I just realized that I never really answered his question. Bakit nga ba? It's been two years, pero bakit yung nakaraan pa rin yung inaalala ko? He's right though; I've got a new life and new friends. I should try harder with moving on and actually enjoy my life now.

I looked over to see my sleeping friends. I decided to take out my laptop and watch some more One Tree Hill to help me fall asleep, which did me the trick since I felt my eyes closing. I turned off my laptop after finishing around 2 episodes and set it aside. Pagkahiga ko, kinuha ko yung phone ko para tignan kung may mga bagong notifications at messages. Nakita ko lang na nagmessage si Chris sa GC namin. Pinapaalala lang niya yung lunch namin magkakabarkada bukas.

Inisip ko tignan rin muna yung Twitter ko. Binuksan ko yung notifications ko, at nakita ko na ilang retweet at like ang nakuha ng tweet ni Brad. Nakita ko rin yung reply nina Mika at Julie sa tweet niya.
