Poem #9 The silenced voice

28 7 2

Downtrodden, miserable, tortured and slaved,
When she asked for education, no one caved.

A disgrace to the family, marry her off soon
Her brother;the bright Sun and she the pale moon

Denied of her rights with a dupatta over her head,
Your husband is the God, the elders said.

Never voiced her opinion, for days underfed
Muffling her screams on nights she bled.

But one day she escaped the darkness of misery
and held high the flaming light of literacy.

The silenced thoughts now shook the orthodox foundation,
Her past was now her energy and not her obstruction.
