"When my friends ask me why I stayed so long, why I accepted the roses and ignored the thorns I tell them it's not easy to weed out the roots he planted in me,"

He quickly sent me to the room and kept me there the whole night. I was uncomfortable and petrified. I had watched this man choke the sheriff right before my very eyes, who knows what he would do to me.
No matter how incredibly tired I was, I couldn't sleep, too much was on my mind. I couldn't be asleep when the brothers came and got me. So, I remained awake, pacing the room to keep me from falling asleep.
I waited all night, but they didn't come, lots of doubt clouded my mind and it was already morning, meaning they hadn't came to get me.
I was furious, I couldn't believe I practically sold myself to save them and they couldn't come and get me. There was no way I was going to stay here, I was going to get out of here with or without the Gecko brothers' help.
It was afternoon when someone came and grabbed me, taking me back to the boss' office.
"Come, sit down," he said, motioning for me to sit down in the seat I sat in the previous night, the Sheriff's body was no longer there. It was already cleaned up, like it never happened.
"Yesterday, you were certainly frightened, am I correct?" He asked, sitting down behind his hard oak desk, folding his fingers into each other.
I didn't respond, I refused to respond. I didn't want to feed into any word that came out of his mouth.
"You don't speak?" He asked. I considered responding in Spanish, but he beat me to the punch, "¿no hablas?"
I made eye contact, fidgeting in my chair. I hadn't spoken since the previous night, all night while pacing I hadn't spoken.
"Hablarme," he spoke softly, trying to make me believe he was kind, but I knew who he was, what he had done, I wasn't going to give into his kindness.
"You don't have to be afraid," he said, while somebody walked through the doors and made their way to him, whispering in his ear.
After their inside conversation, he nodded, the guy instantly left and he looked at me, a smile on his face.
