For as long as I remember, I've been lying my whole life.
It wasn't because of some tragic backstory or something, I mean, I lived in a pretty normal family, lying was just a thing of mine. It didn't matter whether it was for fun, for protection or whatever, lying was my thing, and I enjoyed it.
Until I met her.
I don't think I've ever lied this much in a week then I did my entire life. Sure, it was my thing, but the truth was pretty interesting sometimes.
But I didn't want to face the truth, I didn't want to face my truth.
Not when she was so bright and dazzling. Not when she'd cheerfully greet me every time she saw me. Not when she became out of reach.
Not when she and I weren't meant to be.
'Feelings cannot be fully erased, but they can be denied a place to grow.' I read that line somewhere, and while I agree,
I always end up letting them foster and grow.
It was painful, how something in my chest clenched when I saw her, how my pulse picked up when she was near, how butterflies fluttered in my stomach so much I wanted to throw up.
'The greatest way to fool someone is to act a fool yourself.'
So, I didn't what anyone else would do.
I lied.
"Like I'd be in love with you."
And maybe someday, my lies will come true.
